bank incorrectly charging membership fee - ladies, check your bank statements, please
My husband and I have been customers of a certain well-known international bank here for many years. We noticed in our visa statement yesterday that we were charged 600 dirhams for a membership fee. After some research on line and not much help from the bank, we discovered that this fee is charged if your spending limit does not reach a certain amount for the year. We meet this annual amount easily every month so should not have been charged this at all. After some digging around, it appears that we've actually been charged for other years as well. Thankfully, the bank is looking into the matter so we should get all charges from previous years refunded. But if we had not noticed this charge yesterday (and obviously we hadn't noticed in previous years) we would never have been offered a refund by the bank. Our annual credit card limit is well in excess of 10 times the limit stated by the bank (in order to avoid this fee). How can banks make such brazen errors? And how many of you are unknowingly charged these fees as well? My trust in banks, which was normally rather questionable, has completely tanked.
