Children's literature is my passion!! I have over 750 children's books currently in our shipment on it's way to Dubai right now. Eric Carle writes fantastic books that also teach a life lesson and his books are also available as board books so they are great for LO's. Also, check out these books: http://www.amazon.com/Thats-Pirate-Usborne-Touchy-Feely/dp/0794517021/ref=ntt_at_ep_dpt_11 There are so many of them from That's Not My Truck, That's Not My Car, That's Not My Princess. Both of my boys love these and each page has a different texture to match the words of the book. For example, "That's not my train, it's smoke stack is too rusty." "That's not my pirate, his eyebrows are too fluffy." The kids love the textures and the books promote new vocabulary. I have purchased several of these books in the Khalidiya mall in AD so I know they are in UAE. I've also bought them at Barnes and Noble in the states so I'm sure the bigger bookstores in Dubai would carry them.

Wow, spoilt for choice. Seeming that the sight was down yesterday and couldnt check my post I took a trip to Ibn this morning and found some books for DD at Borders.. Thanks ladies for sharing. Will take note and Quizzme will ask DH to take me and DD sounds too much of a good deal to miss out; where do you find books in Dubai for that price! its a bargain! thanks for the headsup. Off to bed now Night all!

Go to the Floating Book Fair in Port Rashid, It's there until teh 5th February and has some amazing deals. I picked up some very good books for my daughter (4) starting at 7.50 Aed! Drive down Jumeirah Beach Road, all the way to the end (after the flag) to Port Rashid, park in the main car park (close to the gates) and walk through the gates at the registration table (you need your id as you are entering a custom zone). A bus will take you on board. Take your LO as they have activities for the kids and the volunteers are fab. All the books given in previous posts are fantastic, other ones are: - Little Miss Spider series, - All of the Winnie the Witch, - Pinkalicious, Goldalicious, Purpalicious (more for girls), - Little Tiger Press has some excellent books like Here comes the elephant - Giraffes can't dance - all the Jerboa book series which has been written by Dubai Women's College students (available in English & Arabic): - They're yummy in our Tummy, Emaar the small hump, Whose footprints are these. - Oliver Jeffer's books are fab, How to catch a star, The way back home, The incredible book eating boy etc ... - Aliens Love underpants and Aliens save the world with Underpants are fab reads too Hope this helps ;)

Some favourites from my experience, my son is now 4 but these are stories he has reallyenjoyed and still loves them! 1. The Duck in The Truck (great rhymes and a very funny story about a duck drivng a truck that gets stuck in the muck) 2. Father Christmas Needs a Wee - fabulous rhyming story which helps with counting. Was given this at Christmas but he wants this read to him every night now 3. Any Paddington Bear story 4. The Mr Men and Little Miss series are brilliant for reading. They are quite 'wordy' but the charachters really capture little ones' imaginations, and very expressive vocabulary, adjectives, and learning about personality traits, colours, sizes, etc. 5. Russell the Sheep - lovely book comes with CD to accompany the story, with sound effects, makes it come alive 6. We're Going on a Bear Hunt - again you can get gift versions with accompanying CD which you can also use as a game in daytime 7. Owl Babies - lovely story about 3 baby owls missing their mum (who comes back with food) Hope that helps a bit!

Besides most that were mentioned below, we also really like the Read at Home: Oxford Learning Tree books - They were meant for my early reader whose in reception but I'm finding the little ones are liking it too b/c 1) they are short 2) have lots of pictures to keep their attention. As it turns out, I ordered two complete sets (typing error), happy to give at cost if you want. Otherwise, will give to my nephew for his upcoming birthday. Its handy b/c while we can read it to him now, he'll be able to read it to himself when he's learning to read in a few years. There's 35 books in the set.

Mine also like Gruffalo, The Snail and the Whale, Room on the Broom, We're Going on a Bear Hunt, How do Dinosaurs say Good night or any from Jane Yolen, Harold and the Purple Crayon, Where the Wild Things Are, Giraffes Can't Dance, Dinosaurumpus. I get mine from the US when I travel. I just ordered a bunch that my sis is bringing with her next week :)

Yes, I was going to say anything by Julia Donaldson (Gruffalo; Gruffalo's Child; Room on the Broom; Night mOnkey, Day Monkey. She writes lovely stories that have rythmn and rhyme. My boys also loved Hairy Maclary by Lynley Dodd for the same reason. Some rollicking tales that rhymed with repetition so the child can join in the telling. Anything by Mem Fox is worth getting - she also does some awesome work that is beautifully illustrated. eg Possum Magic Alison Lester - writes some lovely stuff that is lovely and calm to read. eg Imagine; The Magic Beach; Bumping and Bouncing, Bibs and Boots; Crashing and Splashing; Happy and Sad And of course Dr Seuss! All of the above books I would buy.
