So, DH and me ( we are Brits) are going to LA in April and hiring a car to drive along the PCH. We lived in LA and married there 25 years ago and this is my first return trip......he is a pilot so goes there quite often but is limited in what he sees due to time constraints.
We used to travel to Santa Barbara as poor newlyweds and loved it, so we want to visit there.
We have 10 days there, and arrive and depart in LA. DH wants us to go to San Francisco too.
Any ideas and suggestions of the best places to visit and stay? Nice hotels? Great restaurants.Sights. Vineyards. Routes. Everything from cheap and cheerful to a bit of glamour.
I have read thru the guide books but there is nothing like personal recommendations.
Thanks, ladies for taking the time to read this and hopefully advise us.
LG : )

We LOVE that restaurant, it has a greek name and usally a celebrity! Lizzie we do this trip often so if you want to look at all my albums feel free. We went to a few off road places as well and i have numerous books on US roadtrips (ghost towns, reservations, funky eateries, etc)

hi lizzie, a few years ago my then boyfriend and i drove from san francisco to LA. On the way there he surprised me by stopping at a great hid away called The Post Ranch Inn, in an area called Big Surr. He'd organised reservations at there cliff restaurant where we had a beautiful 4 course meal which was very romantic (overlooked the ocean, 11,000 ft above sea level) by the time we got to our room he had arranged the staff to have candles lit, and the fire place going (choice of room included ocean views or tree houses which are built within the redwood trees!). We stayed in one of the tree houses and they were lovely, that was the night we got engaged. Unfortunately we didnt get to stay for long the next day as we needed to be in LA but had we stayed longer we would have taken full advantage of the morning walk in the forest, yoga and use of the day spa. its more of a romantic place so not much else to do other than spend time with your partner and it is on the more $$$ side (one good thing is everything in the room is included in the price from the champagne to the cheese so no surprising mini bar tab at check out!). I hope this give you an idea at least, enjoy your trip and safe travels.

Have emailed you, thanks so much. Even if someone has a one off place they think we should visit we would be really grateful for the info.
