Hi
Does anyone have any advice as to the best way to go about getting a Visa to visit Dubai?
My friend holds a Canadian passport but is resident in the UK.
We have called the Embassy here and the Embassy in London, but of course they are saying very different things! She is due to travel in 2 weeks! Has anyone else been through this process?
Any advice would be great.
Thanks x

Cancel the BA flight and go with Emirates..... best advice! She'll pay 75$ instead of 250$ and they will take care of the visa instead of the two of you! :)

Obviously, a Canadian embassy issues visas to Canada and not the UAE, so please don't send her there ;) She can get the form and all info from the UAE embassy in Canada, the form is available on their website. If she is staying at a hotel, the hotel will be able to assist her with the visa. If she is staying with you, then you need to sponsor her. Here is the link http://www.uae-embassy.com/Visas.html She can probable bring her visa application to the UAE embassy in London, but I'm not sure, so don't take my word for it. http://www.uaeembassyuk.net/ We just completed the visa application for my parents who are coming in 3 weeks. We did it from here, used an agency, they said it would take 4-5 days to process. I can ask my husband for the name for the agency if you want, let me know.

She needs to go to the Canadian embassy in London and apply for the relevant visa. The fact she is a UK resident is irrelevant as far as the UAE is concerned. Unless she has the relevant visa, no airline will take her on board as the airline is ultimately responsible for transporting passenger and could be fined if they are found without the proper documentation. BA and Emirates will be able to advise since many of their cabin crews are affected with the new visa rules for Canadian travelling to the UAE.

Sillylilly That sucks! Unfortunately your friend has been caught in the beginning stages of this all in which no one really knows what is going on. Can she bank her BA ticket for another time ie somewhere else in Europe and rebook with Emirates here? SQ in this case with all the 'politics' involved I think with the friend having a Canadian passport she will be required to follow the rules for Canadians regardless of being a resident of the UK. Hope you get some better answers and your friend gets it sorted.

If you are a resident (but not citizen) then you can apply to any embassy for a visa from the country you are residing in. If they are a long term visitor to the UK then the embassy will not entertain it. Perhaps online with Emirates, no questions will be asked.

Thanks Rickadon, Unfortunately we found this out later and she is already booked with BA. Embassy here said its a straightforward form that needs to be filled in as she is a UK resident but Embassy in London say they have never heard of such a thing!

Apparently if she flies Emirates they will do it on line and it is A LOT cheaper. If not she may actually have to contact the Embassy in Ottawa and go from there. Sorry, hope that helps
