Hi aircraftblonde, thanks so much for your help! I will talk to the doctor today and see if we can try the last option - Ritalin. Better with no medication than concerta. Thanks again!

I have emailed Dr Rasheed , she is in the states at the moment. Once I get her reply I will post. I will also ask our Pharmacist, he should know as well as he is well informed about these kind of drugs. ACB

I have tried and had no answer. its a very frustrating. I have had different answers too, 'if its not on the list, then its ok'............ but I have also read that not all controlled drugs are on the list...

If the medication is banned there are NO exceptions.I noticed you already raised the subject about a month ago and posters gave some contact numbers. How did you get on with those ?.

Can I ask one of you to do me a huge favor? Concerta really isn't working for me. I changed to this medication because I was told dexamphetamine(also known as Dexedrine) isn't on the controlled drug list. I don't want to end up in jail... So I was wondering if one of you would mind asking one of your doctors? If it is illegal and can it be got in Dubai? If no, is their special permission available to have it shipped in? I have emailed the drug control department twice and had no reply. I have also phoned and no one answers. It would really help me out!

Never had to get any of the paperwork notarised. I think 3 months supply is the maximum you would be able to bring in with a valid prescription.

what happens if you get caught without a prescription? if any drug is on the controlled list and you do not have the prescription etc for it you would be in deep trouble. remember that even in cough medicine in the uk there are substances that are banned here, and people have been put in jail for it before now. also have a letter from the doc and the original prescription if you are carrying it around to be on safe side. you should always have the drugs in the original containers too.

When I phoned the UAE embassy in Aussie, they said, I had to get a letter from the doctor, have it notarized by a notary, then sent to the gov for their stamp and then sent to them with $60AUD..... you didn't have to do all this? Also that I could bring a three month supply with me....? Do you know anything about this?

You just need the prescription copies, you have to carry these with you all the time you have concerta on you as they are a Narcotic, for example, when travelling on holiday, you take the meds in your bag then the prescription copy has to be with you. I think for 36mgs it will cost around 250 Dhs. Also over here if you get a prescription you only have a day or so to fill it. If it is issued on the last day of the month then you have to fill it on that day, otherwise you need to go back and get another prescription. Nightmare I know!!!

Dr Shama Rashid is also good. She is based at the Child Learning and Enrichment Centre, just of al Wasl road. Prescription re fill charges are 150 Dhs plus around 240 for the meds. Appoints are 450 and include the prescription charge. She has a lincence here and in the US.

Our psychiatrist Dr Nathani unfortunately returned to the US but I have been recommended Dr Amer Saadedine at the Dubai Community Health Center 04-3953939. He caters for all ages.We managed to get an appointment without too much difficulty. BTW concerta can be prescribed by a GP but only for 2 weeks at a time. A psychiatrist can prescribe concerta for a whole month. Also if the psychiatrist has a valid US or a UK licence as well he can write a prescription that can be used in these countries. The cost of med differs from country to country but in Dubai concerta 18mgs is fixed at 239dhs for a bottle for eg.

A bottle of 30 tablets (18mg) costs around Dhs 240. I can't remember whether the higher dosage tablets cost more or not. Your health insurance may cover it. Our insurance pays 90%. In Dubai, Concerta can only be prescribed by a handful of psychiatrists so that adds to the expense as well.
