Hi there, I need advise pls. As most of you have had maids can you please help me decide which one would be better for me to hire. I know that most of you would have a personal opinion becos of yr experience, but I just need a rough idea.

Thanks

If I ever get a live-in maid again I will personally opt for a Srilankan. That said, I know that there are some lovely Philipina maids out there

MMMMM...let me think back to all these threads before? Maids wearing clothes, maids having taxi drivers in, maids saying husband/son had got them pregnant....no, can't remember what nationality they usually are................

Yes Kid, most Sri Lankans have lovely smiles, and the kids feel so comfy around them.

There is something quite gentle and kind about Sri Lankans.. that's a broad generalisation but I was happy with our Sri Lankan maid. She always seemed to have a smile on her face. Aside from nationality, you just have to be prepared to work closely with your maid so yours and her expectations are met. good luck;)

yes babyrat, it is not just about doing the job, there are other things to deal with. Some choose a maid who is the same religion as them, others want one whose religion is different, so that they do not mind working over certain holidays. Some have to cook their food in the house, and stir fried chicken feet with fish heads can stink a little. Others don't like the smell of curry. Sometimes the accent of the maid can really tick you off. Some maids have the wrong skin color, but I do not know what is the right skin color really as we have many different kinds in out house, but i have heard that. It goes on and on, but in general most nationalities have certain habits, and if you know you don't like that, then it is better to get a different one. Afterall these maids are in the house daily and end up being a member of the household.

Does it matter so long as they can do the job!

I would say Indonesian! Srilankans next and I would never ever consider Phillipinos...........yes there must be some good Phillipino maids out there but the ones I've known of generally act like the work they are employed for is beneath them and show attitude, after some time (if not straight away).

Weight is deceiving. The one I had weighed 40kg but could eat a horse. She ate 2 chickens in 1 sitting and still complained that I was not giving her enough food :\:

What next? white or black? blond or brunette? tall or short? slim or fat? right or left-handed? Come on! Can you imagine the up-roar back at "home" (wherever that might be for any of us) if we used such criteria to judge a person's ability to do a job. Why should it be okay to do it here? I'm sorry but I find this shocking and for once I'm going to say it. On this note, bonne nuit.

I really don't think nationality matters. Good and bad maids come in all nationalities and races. In most cases, you will have to train a maid to do things as you want.
