Custom Vs. Ready Made Curtains

My family and I are finally getting ready to move into our apartment in JBR and I've been researching curtains. It looks like a lot of the posts are regarding good contacts for custom made curtains, and occasionally a place to buy ready made but my question is... based on experience which is better? I'm assuming (because I've never had custom made curtains before) that these are nicer, but are they cost effective? I'm not against paying for quality, but since this is a rental, and not a forever home my question is how do they compare in price vs. ready made? Is it easier/cheaper just to pop over to Ikea for basic curtains? Is there something specific to living in Dubai or JBR that I should be aware of? Back home all rentals come with vertical blinds (not the most stylish) but I've never spent much cash on curtains for a temporary place because the windows were already covered, so curtains were essentially just to look pretty. (We had nice curtains when we bought our first home, but these were ready made, since our windows were a standard size). Any advice is appreciated.

Hiya yes we had to make the same decision in the villa we are currently in. Ready made seem to be hugely expensive so the mammoth task of finding curtains and blinds was awful. Anyway I bought a mix from Pottery Barn (on sale), Ikea and Home Centre and then for crazy tiny square windows and high long windows just had some blinds made in a nice fabric by Blinds and Curtains .ae they were pretty cheap, professional and they had the 6 blinds done in a few days and installed all of them including for those windows very high up. Hope this helps a little. AEW
