Ummm don't slap me but there were fireworks at BK on Thursday night. They were at the Burj Park and not on the building as usual. We were at Thipthara at the Palace for dinner and saw the whole opening ceremony (dancers on the lake) and then some fireworks coming out of giant shopping bags. Nothing as spectacular as the Burj Khalifa opening, but great free entertainment nevertheless.

For Residences' residents they have different entrance, normally with that barrier thingy. This car park, as far as I know, is for public and free. Not sure if they have change. People have used it during that NYE fireworks saga. Not many knows it since there is no signage. sorry if it confused you, anea18. ok, if the address hotel on your right hand side, keep driving, you will pass the palace hotel, keep on the right hand lane, just after the traffic light you will see Tasty D-light ice cream shop, there is an arrow sign pointing you to go to the basement parking. Take that, park your car there. Out from the basement. The entrance to Burj Park I was talking about is this stairways in between The Palace hotel and Tasty D-light shop. You will have a magnificent view, where you can get nice picture of the Burj Khalifa. So now go down the stairways, into the square, keep walking to end of square. On your left will be apartment blocks (where restaurant etc) and if you go straight, take the bridge into the island/Burj Park. HTH Halle1 Can you please tell me if this car park is free or payable? I always thought it is for residents of Burj Residence towers only... thanks

thx. you mean where I drive up to Armani Hotel, where the tourist always stop to take a pic of Burj Khalifa? there's a great little 'hidden' entrance here. it's tiny and single file when you first go in. i use it all the time now i've discovered it.

Burj Khalifa Boulevard, time TBC. just found that on timeoutdubai :-) anea18, if the acces from dubai mall to burj park is closed then you enter it from emaar boulevard/main road where the square/stairs is.

There is a green/grass area like a small island at the foot of BK. From MORE (Dubai Mall) cafe walk straight around the lake, pass the bridge, voila...an island! The Burj Park! From there too, you can walk over other bridge out of island, walk straight to a massive square (?), up the stairs and to the Emaar Boulevard/main road. <em>edited by Halle1 on 19/01/2011</em>

From the notice board, it said that the Burj Park will be closed from 6pm onwards on Jan 20th for DSF Opening Ceremony. The Royal family and dignitaries (?) will attend the occasion. Although us mere mortal can still see from the area that not cordonned-off. At the edge of the park and lake, there is a giant board the shape of shopping bag, runway, a stage that submerged under(the lake)water, and additional fountains with colourful lights at the background. I also saw acrobatic dancers and drummers (?) did a rehearsal.

My hubby just got a SMS from etisalat/DSF on his blackberry: "Join us to celebrate the spectacular opening of DSF 2011 at Creek park (entry free) on January 20, starting 4pm. Make the celebrations yours" but nothing about opening at Burj Khalifa!

They've built a stage and a runway going out onto the lake at Burj K park. I was thinking yesterday that the stage is facing the lake so no ideal for a crowd to see what's going on. If it's a private do then that would explain this.

According to my sources: The fireworks show will be held only at: Creek Side Park, Global Village, Heritage Village in Shandagha area in Bur Dubai and Dubai Outlet Mall . There will also be a public opening ceremony at Dubai creek park from 4 PM till 12 AM . Burj Khalifa is just having a private ceremony with no fireworks show and it requires special invitation.....

I live in downtown and they are practicing all the strobe lights over at the lake where the fountains are. I also work for a company who are involved (cant say how!!) and I have just had it confirmed, it will go ahead tomorrow. at least we are planning for it to go ahead, but you know what its like!
