Has anyone camped here? If so do you have to contact them in advance to get permission or do you just show up?

Spotted that too. Thanks for all the input. Seems like going alone is not an option.

In this week's Time Out I noticed that Arabian Adventures do an overnight camping tour in the DDCR. All equipment and sleeping bags are included as are dinner and breakfast. Dhs460 per person

There is a website for the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve. Just had a quick look at it and day visitors are strictly limited. Don't think you could camp there. You would need to telephone them and enquire. When we stayed at Al Maha we had to leave our car in the parking area and we were then driven in their vehicle to the resort itself. edited by amelia on 08/01/2011

As far as I know the only way to get access to DDCR is with one of the four approved tour companies (Arabian Adventures, Travco, Alpha Tours & Lama Tours I believe) on their sundowner tours or as a part of a scientific study/research group. Or of course if you are staying at Al Maha Resort. The tour companies are restricted to a small area of DDCR near Margham and their tours don't include overnight camping; access to the remainder of the reserve is only available to the conservation officers and scientists etc.

do you mean staying in Al Maha desert Resort??? Or you can camp with your own tent? I didn't know you can camp there, I would love it.
