Hi all :)

I am a South African girl, with both a South African and British passport and my fiancee is South African only. We are planning on getting married, but I just want to know if I need to register my marriage with the British government, since we will be marrying under South African law?

I just want to know if anyone else has been through this and what steps they took, before we get to consulting lawyers, etc :)

TIA ladies!

I had a similar query when I got married and was informed of the following as a British Citizen. https://www.gov.uk/marriage-abroad [i'>Contact the local authorities in the country where you want to get married or enter into a civil partnership to find out what you need to do. Your marriage or civil partnership should be recognised in the UK if you follow the correct process according to local law - you won’t need to register it in the UK.[/i'>[/i'> Therefore, as Sarahlou (she always gives good advice) says make sure your certificate is attested :)

Don't forget to attest your marriage certificate in the country you marry in too
