Our current washing machine is less than 2 years old and the motor burnt out on it last week. It's going to cost 1250AED all in to repair it. It's usually a good machine, but worried one thing has gone wrong, more repairs will arise.

I had a look in Geant yesterday, and due to DSF they have several good branded washing machines for around the same price and the advantage of a one year's guarantee.

Not sure what to do, what would you ladies do? We've been here 6 years and have already gone through 3 machines in that time. Seem to be very unlucky with white goods here.

maybe see if any stores offer extended warranties... of course you have to pay but I would think if you have gone through 3 washing machines already, it might be worth the cost. I know stores offer extended warranties for a fee for tvs and stuff just don't know about washing machines.

I would also say buy a new one. Our washing machine broke down when it was under 2 years old. Got someone to come and fix it, charged us 500dhs, broke again later the same day. Tried to get them to come and sort out, and the excuses were laughable......so buy new and then you have the 1 year warranty too. We got a good deal at Hyper Panda and they took the old one away. edited by Hotpot on 08/02/2011

Thanks Claire, forgot about Sharaf up the other end. Will give them a look too before I decide on the one! The repair men currently have our current machine and waiting for the go ahead from me to fix or not. So guess they will keep and re-condition, not worth them bringing back unless they have to.

the guys in sharaf in ibn battuta by the soy restaurant were really good. We told them we only wanted the machine if they could deliver it that day and they did!!!!! When you go in if you are getting a new one ask them if they will take the old one away for you. If not,,, call takemyjunk

They did have an LG one, not sure if 'Direct Drive" it was around 1250AED, so will go back and have a look. TBH, I'm very much leaning towards a new one. As long as they deliver ASAP, my washing is resembling a Munro at the moment!!

I have an LG Direct Drive and it seems to be a favourite among the posters on here. Very reliable. Have had mine for three years and (fingers crossed) no problems.
