Hi ladies!

It's been a while since I've popped on to see how life in Dubai is going.

For those who know why I left, DS began prep school today :) Such a better and more supportive start than last year. In fact, we've spent a few weeks with the headmaster getting him adjusted to school life in a bid to make today easier. He only went for a shorter 'get to know you' day today but he seems happy. Still a lot of energy and a long way to go, but at least it's with the helping hands of the school and myself working together for him. My daughter is really happy here, too!

He's still in karate and this past week he was only told to focus once, a big jump from the 20 times last year per class.

We were not affected by the floods but several of the family members were blocked into property, one house went under. Huge clean up ahead but everyone is helping and it makes you proud to be a part and it's good for DS and DD to see how supportive people can be of each other when need be.

I hope Dubai has been as enjoyable! DH just left, he stayed here a bit longer than he planned to so he could help with the clean up (I know, imagine an Emirati helping clean up QLD! But, he helped and worked away with all the old Aussie men who spoke to him about Sheikh Zayed!) He'll be back again in a month or so and then later this year I'll be back with the kids and hopefully have the foundation to have DS ready to begin a school there.

It's tough being away from DH but we'd do it again any day to see the progress of DS.

I don't think there's a cure for behavioural issues but they can be controlled as I've discussed with some people.

Here's hoping!

Ozzy

DR I read your post about the Queen and nearly spat tea onto my computer! Even my mother read on and she was not happy that they hadn't told you about the attire! :)

I think I will start spending more time back here! I've missed my updates! Oh the stories I have to tell them here about these foreign things those people of Dubai call 'maids'! Things don't change though, I still get asked three questions: 1. Is your husband a Moslim (I say 'o' as that how it comes out in the Aussie accent) 2, Are you one of them now? 3. Does you husband have an oil well? ... what an adventure!haha that is so nice, I just love the way Australians are so innocent. DH was looking for a mosque once in Perth and we asked everywhere, but the hardest part was not finding it, but explaining what it is. LOL hahaha! It's so great! There's such a contrast of not knowing and then knowing and wanting to really assist. We have a mosque quite near to us and DH was walking there one Friday when an old man from the retirement place went past in an electric buggy. He asked where DH was going and DH told him, he thought DH didn't know where it was and was lost so he told him to follow him and he drove his buggy the whole way to the mosque to 'help him out'... then invited him to the RSL for a beer afterwards! Told him he was in Dubai during the war and would love to talk to him about the changes over a beer. There is this air of happiness and kindness here, one I'll have to try and cleanse myself of before I return! haha

Good for you for doing what you think is best for your son! Your family will come around more once they see the great improvement that change of environment can sometimes bring about in a person. And best of luck to you for this and next year's schooling...!

ozzy good to hear your news. DS also went through rigorous re-assessments in December, but the results are more promising than they were a few years ago. I wish you all the best for your DS, you are doing the right thing, and thankfully you have a supportive husband, so all will be well. Servants Quarters, I've just read a few of your posts and *believe* I know your identity (it has changed from another name, but I can pick up from your posts! :) ) That is great to here that the new tests are promising for your DS. I really intend to come back and TRY and make a difference. I'd like to make it so ONE DAY a child will go into a school and their special needs are not discharge factors. As you can imagine, it's not easy to uproot a local, but DH has been so supportive (family not as much but that's because they don't want the children having left and TBH I think they are quite angry about the removal situation from last year and at the school for not trying, and the more you speak the more of the older generation seem to unravel with the stories of what school was like and how bad it was) but DH knows it's for the best for DS and for his future.Just because you are in OZ doe not mean you cannot come on here daily.......lol.....anyway, I wish you all the best and hope you get DS's name down for a good school in Dubai for next year.

Nice to hear from you :) Enjoy Australia Day on Wednesday x Thank you very much! A'Day is all up in arms because there are the groups saying to have no fireworks so the money can go to QLD, but we'll see how it goes ahead here! :)
