i think they are fruit flies but not sure. they are drawn to the windows and annoy us as soon as we sit down to eat. the last straw today when i brought home two cooked chickens from shops and left to cool down on the worktop. picked them up to put in the fridge and one bag had around 10 of these b*****s in it (the bag had ripped and i hadnt realised), chucked it straight in the bin, please help me get rid of them

Now the dustbin gets rinsed out every 2nd day with steriliser / savlon / dettol & it has made such a difference - also take out the rubbish as soon as your dustbin is full. Good Luck!!!! thanks for the replies. we dont have a dustbin indoors, just use a carrier bag on the door which i remove from the house 2-3 times a day and each time replace with a new bag, will getting cleaning all the surfaces tomorrow with dettol!!!

Their eggs are in your home that is why they appear the following day. i will be starting to wash all my fruit, etc as soon as I get home when I start to see them in the shops, so they must be here now you have them.. i was wondering about a fly trap might just have to get one. I am very careful not leaving food out as paronoid about the ants!!! fortunately ive had the ants under control for a while now. ive only had these flies for the last week or so and keep swatting them and killing them and they are back with a vengence the next day!!!!

I bought an organic fly trap from organic cafe that works for me. You just stick them across the window and the little bugs get stuck on it. I have one on the window over the worktop and one near the bin.

Must try that . try putting whole cloves in a small dish - it may help. It has in my house.

Do not leave any fruit out and wash all fruit when you get home and bananas also as soon as you get home . Cover all food with netting or T towels. It may take a few days to get rid of them if they are in the house but do persist and you can get them under control.Do not keep any food in your dust bin longer than the day. Fruit and veg peelings put in bin outside or in compost heap. Good Luck. edited by jewelsmiddle on 01/05/2011
