How do I go about doing some consultancy work?

Thanks Cheggers, it does seem to be getting a little complicated (no surprises there though, huh?) as I doubt my friend wants to get involved in work permits, benefits etc.

Does anyone know how much a work permit costs and/or has anyone successfully done any consultancy/freelancing?
Anyone with experience of these 'virtual freezones'?

I must admit at this stage and given the amount of work I'm likely to be doing, given the cost of a freezone, I'd be better off paying some tax through my UK Company. Although this takes me back to the original point of my visa stating 'not allowed to work'.

More help please!

Mind you if this report in AB is anything to go by you may not need to set up a company, DH can sponsor you to work :-) http://www.arabianbusiness.com/new-work-permit-rule-gives-expats-sponsorship-power-370730.html "Expats will be able to act as official work sponsors for their dependents from January, a senior Ministry of Labour official told Arabian Business. The official said that the sponsorship role traditionally reserved for companies will now extend to spouses and parents, currently on a work permit in the UAE, who want to sponsor their relatives."
