How much does your gas cost you per annum?

Just a quick question about the gas bottles that I believe are used in Dubai at your homes to run ovens, stoves etc and are refilled as required. (ie not petrol-gas) How much does it cost you to run these for your family (assuming 4 - 5 people) each year?

Many thanks.

In our old appartment for 2 people we never got a second bottle of gas in a year, we had an electric oven, with that i guess the DEWA bill gets higher, now in miridff with a gas oven i changed the first bottle after 5 months, gas used to be 95 for medium bottle, now it became 115 for some reason. :(

Beware BMAP, water and electric are only subsidised for Emirates - the rest of us pay a shed load!! Also be aware that the gas ovens generally sold here are not great. Bottle gas burns at a high temp and the ovens are notorious for burning cakes. That's why I lashed out for a decent electric oven and it works like a dream I had no idea of those 2 facts. Thanks for the information, very helpful.

I cook with a gas hob and electric oven and change gas only once a year! Beware BMAP, water and electric are only subsidised for Emirates - the rest of us pay a shed load!! You can expect your utility bills to be significantly higher here than in the UK. Also be aware that the gas ovens generally sold here are not great. LOL Thanks, Sticky Wicket. Yeah, I was thinking gas would be a higher cost. I had read somewhere that other utilities were subsidised by the government in the UAE but gas wasn't, so I thought I'd better ask in case it was hair-raisingly expensive. I don't use gas for my stovetop or oven here so I have no idea how quickly you would use it up on a day-to-day basis. Cheers :-)

Thanks everyone. Couldn't find this information anywhere on the net. It's a very valid question especially when you look at water/ac/electrical costs. It's actually one thing that costs very littel over the year. I agree about having an electric over/gas hob. We maybe go through two gas bottles a year doing this.

Generally change bottle 6 - 7 times a year. gas is not an expensive item around 100 dhs a bottle. You need to pay for bottles when starting out, best to have 2. edited by jewelsmiddle on 10/05/2011

Depends on whether you've got a gas or electric oven and how often u use it!! With a gas oven we probably refilled every 2 months now with elec/gas hob we haven't refilled for 6 months. edited by angela on 10/05/2011

We are three adults two kids and I'd say we refill 3 - 4 times a year at around 100dhs a go.

There re only 2 of us but we cook every day and we use maybe 2 gas bottles per year. They now cost AED 115 to refil, so not very expensive for gas per year.
