I have seen men run across that road often, and yes a lady in abaya (and trainers) too. A lot are around the blue shops but some further towards the border... they do manage to get across it seems
sadly some of them do it deliberately...never.

A few yers ago it used to be a really common occurance - many did it on purpose so that there families would get the blood money.....

Its true. I had some nutter throw himself at my car on the old Garhoud bridge in 2002 and luckily he was not harmed but seriously, he threw himself at my car. i was just not going fast enough to kill him. Thankfully for me (not so much him,. he wanted money for his family)
Really!!? My god..... then I am wise to always keep my foot on hover over the brake pedal and duck into the slow lane when the road gets too fast ........
They dont look like they want to die tho ............ really, they dont want to die but do want to cross the road ..... total contradiction in values and they clearly arent paid enough to cross the road. My goodness what would any of us be willing to accept to cross that road???? I wouldnt do it for any amount of money on this planet!!!!!!! But they do ............
And I still dont understand how they ever get across the road ....
Over the past 3 weeks of driving to my new job from DXB to AUH (& back) ........ I have seen on average 2 car crashes (each way!!) per day ..........maybe some of those smashes / shunts, were due to the indians crossing the road ............ but I think they're probably just as much down to the idiot drivers ..............
I still cant get my head around even contemplating crossing SZR or SMBR road at any time of the day ... but these guys must do coz I see them trying every day. . . . .
Where do they come from...... where are they going? (in the middle of no where!?).
A lot of them do not care, and the blood money gets their greedy families off their backs, sadly.
They had to stop blood money in Bahrain exactly because of this.
Now Sue, that I would slow down for ....... but alas I don't believe you :-)
I am still seriously intrigued ........ how the h@ll do they cross the road?
Sad I know, but I would SO love to be a fly on the shoulder of a UAE road worker ...... just for a few hours ................
A fly? The jet pack is made up of flies silly.
PMSL StickyW!! I actually reckon they must have secret camps and a lookout ........ 1 or 2 crossings day maximum!! For all we know there are full on labour camps beneath ground in the middle lane no mans land!!!!
I am still intigued re how these men cross the death road!

Ok, another Thurs (weds eve) thread, apols in advance.
I drive to AD each day and each & every day I see men working on the foliage that separates 12 lanes going from AD to DXB / DXB to AD ……. They stand in the middle (ie. the fast lane hard shoulder) looking like they want to cross the road to get back to their vehicle, that is parked on the other side of the 6 lanes …….HOW do they do it and stay alive????
Do they stand there for 9 hrs waiting for a suitable gap in the traffic??? For surely they must have to wait hours? I’ve not yet had to slam on the brakes to miss one…….. and I’ve not yet seen one actually take the plunge into the lanes …………
Can you imagine writing a risk assessment for those poor guys that tend to what ever needs doing in the middle of the road???
I just cant get my head around it!!
