It would be pointless to change the law, as it is, the media is under a degree of restraint, under sub judice law, but in the era of Twitter etc and other more unaccountable media it is almost impossible to keep anything out of the public domain. Sometimes better to have the facts in mainstream media, rather than rampant speculation all over the chatrooms.

No doubt the lawyers are working on it now.

To be honest I am really surprised that the media are allowed to publish the details so quickly, especially with all the human rights laws now.

I agree with you. Unfortunately a lot of people go along with the myth no smoke without fire. Many peoples life are tarnish or destroyed by gossip, which people listen to often enough will actually believe which can be worse than media in a small community. I do hope they catch the correct killer and may him or her pay and not to be too " human rights " , sometimes one may wonder who's side the law is on.

Of curse it is! Back when I used to work as a journo, you were not allowed to give any specific details of a person arrested unless they had been formally charged with the crime - then the details were released. To do so beforehand is bang out of order.

to publish details of a man arrested for murder before they are proven guilty? In regards to the murder case in the UK on sky news etc... another man was arrested a few weeks back and his details and life history plastered across the papers etc, then no evidence to back this arrest up and he was released. I just think it ruins people's lives and it's not like they can turn the clock back once they've been accused of something so heinous as murder if they are infact innocent, just interested to know what people think?
