I decided to post the positive aspects of living in JBR for those who may consider living here, since the negative aspects have been posted and reposted. While I will agree with some of the negative things mentioned, it is always good to have a well rounded, dare I say fair and balanced, review to consider! :)

We are in our 4th year of living in JBR - we don't HAVE to live here, we CHOOSE to live here. One of my responsibilities over the past 4 years has been to locate corporate housing for some of our personnel - I've viewed apartments / duplexes in almost every tower / community in the Marina, many buildings in Al Barsha, JLT, the Lofts in the Burj Khalifa area, etc.. When weighing the pros and cons of living here, and having the opportunity to move every year if I wanted to, the pros win every time, which are:

1) We have a fantastic view of the Marina from every room in my apartment, and we start every morning with the Sunrise.

2) My teenage daughter has several friends from school living in the community, and most of her friends that live elsewhere come to our community on the weekends. They go to the beach, our pool, and spend time down on the JBR Walk or on the Marina Walk in the evening and I am not worried.

3) Our bedrooms are larger and better laid out than most other apartments in this price range.

4) We have a full size laundry room rather than doing the wash in the kitchen, where most washers are located in apartments here.

5) We have a grocery store, Starbucks, and Gym on the plaza level of our section, and our Doctor's office and hair salon are right next door.

6) We don't have to fight the traffic on the Beach side of JBR on the weekends because we live here - we can walk down to any restaurant, hotel or shop whenever we want.

7) We live on the beach.

When considering living in New York City recently, I took into consideration the salary, cost of an apartment in the city of comparable standards, the noise level of the city, conveniences and inconveniences, safety, etc., - we are staying here.

Would love to hear from others that enjoy living in JBR - for those that don't, please post your comments on the other thread!

Thank you Nazly for your post, we've living here for 4 years and I just love it!! we ware walking distance from everything, beach is at our door step, and we have great swiming pools. Appartment are huge and I'm so lucky to live in Sadaf were there are no restaurants near our building. Traffic is not an issue if you are on the Marina side and not the walk .. JBR is the best location ever :-)

We have lived here for almost three years and although there are things I don't love about JBR, the pros outweigh the cons. Our apartment is huge, the rooms fit all our furniture from the states, and the view to the marina is beautiful. The fitness studios in our cluster have really great teachers, and it only takes me a two minute walk to get to them. If I don't feel like doing a class, I can either walk on the Walk or walk on the beach or even cross over the bridge and run in the marina. I can even walk to play tennis at one of the hotels at an extra cost obviously. I have more than I need coffee shops to choose from, al maya at an 8 min walk, and hair, nail salons everywhere. For my older kids they can bicycle or play football on the plaza level and my toddler can run around with no worries about cars. Yes, the plaza level is getting more and more run down and the reception area and elevators are the opposite of luxurious. We also walk to marina mall to the movies on the weekends. The traffic on the weekend is mostly avoidable because when we go out, it's just starting and by the time we come back, it's finished. The only thing that is very fustrating for us, is the car exhaust noises in the middle of the night, but any big city has these noises. Regarding the insects that many people claim to have in other apartments, my mother stayed with us for one month and was amazed that not once did she see one crawler. And since we are in the middle floors, we get no smell from restaurants.

Ours is a split facility - dryer in kitchen (in the space meant for a dishwasher), washer in a cupboard in the corridor to the bedrooms! Odd but it works as I can keep all the laundry related paraphanalia hidden in the cupboard including my never shrinking ironing mountain.

The majority of the apartments that I've viewed have the laundry connection in the kitchen - usually a single washer/dryer combo or washer only unit.

Good you like where you live but as an aside to satisfy my curiosity is it true most laundries are in the kitchen here? Ours is big enough to fit a bed in (assuming we wanted to!) and I have seen others much the same-maybe Bur Dubai has bigger laundries?
