Our 3 1/2 year old Sony LCD television seems to have packed in - it's just showing a series of multi-coloured lines now. Has anybody else had this problem and is it worthwhile repairing or are we looking at buying a new tv? The Sony workshop is closed today so we can't get a quote from them yet. We paid Dh9,000 for it so it wasn't a cheap one although they've now come down in price, of course...

Has anybody else had this problem? Thanks!

we had a similar line problem starting with our relatively new panasonic (dead cells apparently, thin lines running down the screen).. it was watchable but a bit annoying. Panasonic collected it and told us it would cost almost the same to repair as to replace, and that the lines would gradually increase.. and they would give us a good price on a new one. We opted to replace as prices have reduced drastically (our tv was also 3.5 yrs) tho not with Panasonic as apparently its a common problem for them (tho i see yours is Sony... which we now have lol)

Depends what the problem is. Could be an issue with the software drivers, or the panel could be bad. If you have to replace the panel, the cost of that and the labour will be alot, in which case, probably better of getting a new tv. But you need to find out what the issue is first.

Well you take it to the sony repair agent and they will look into the problem and give you a quote to fix it.
