You can hire a Sri Lankan on Dh650 if you bring her over with an agency. Perhaps, do that and then raise it after a few months.
And the reasoning behind paying a pathetic pitance is???? Oh yes that's right they're not human again!
NAH, you dont pay them that, but let them think they are coming for that. SO when you pay them more, they will realise it is because you are pleased with their work.
And how would you feel if that's how you were treated? hmm, not so happy about that me thinks.SW, I earn according to how hard i work, and that is only fair. This last month I have been glued to EW and the news due to a sick relative needing my attention, and I missed 4 jobs, that would have paid the school fees for the next 2 years. My bad, I should balance my life better.

ah, i see VP, say thats what you will pay and then up it to a reasonable salary?
Yes, let them believe it is due to hard work.

I would say closer to the 1,000dhs mark too - perhaps 1,200. 1500 is way too much in this early stage considering you are also providing food and clothing, IMO.

1500 is minimum for philippino housemaids didn't realise she was sir lankan. Anyway if she's very experienced why not pay 1500
1000 dhs is 200 Uk pounds a month/50 Uk pounds a week/les than 10 Uk pounds a day - surely we can all pay a bit more than that and give these ladies a chance to give their families a better life.
The market dictates the salary as in all jobs here - I would love to be paid double my salary, my boss can afford it and it would also give my family a much better life as well!!! However, have to be realistic and my salary is what it is for the type of work I do. If this maid turns out to be fabulous, then by all means a raise in salary for a great job done is great reward. Giving too much too soon leaves nothing to work towards.
I know families who could pay their maid 5,000 or 10,000 dhs a month (they can afford it!) but they don't! Why? Not because they are mean but because the work does not justify such a salary.
Just my opinion anyway and I'm sure you'll disagree!

Really, where does it end? 650 aed? Is paying this person a decent salary (which by Dubai standards is what 1500 aed a month??) really affect your lifestyle? If it does than you shouldn't get a maid...
VP, I am not trying to pick on you, but you have stated in other threads that you easily spend 3000 a week on just groceries. I don't know if you are saying you would do this yourself, but if you easily spend that on just groceries (and yes even if its is for a big family) how can you justify paying someone a monthly wage that comes to what sounds like pocket change for you?

Country specific requirements for minimum wages
Do keep in mind that each country has its own regulations regarding minimum salary, age etc and you will have to check with the respective consulate embassy for these details. A maid from India or Philippines must be older than 30, but not over 60. Even recommended minimum salaries differ, with Indian maids to be paid from AED 1,100 onwards (see update), as advised by the Indian Embassy, while new regulations from the Philippines say the minimum salary should be AED 1,400. See update . As per the Sri Lankan embassy, the minimum salary for Sri Lankan maids is AED 825. See update. The minimum salary for Indonesian maids is AED 800 and from Bangladesh, it is AED 750. See update Please note that these are minimum recommendations from governments, but there's nothing stopping you from paying more than the minimum wage.
What's the minimum from the Sri lankan embassy? The rest you state is mandatory in the contract anyway not a bonus! Minimum 1000 dhs, with a three month review.

I need to employ I full time live in maid from Sri Lanka. Her package will include, food, clothing, medical costs & 30 days annual leave with air ticket. Not sure how much salary would be fair to offer her. Any suggestions...
