I'm not sure of the ins and outs but had heard that rules had changed and she may have to be out of the country for 6 months That's only if she has been banned. Why don't you ask to see her passport? Sorry but this maid sounds a bit fishy to me.

But if her visa was canceled by her previous sponsor, how is she remaining in the country? Does she not have 30 days after cancellation of sponsorship to leave? The sponsor chooses to let her stay or not for 30 days after the cancellation of the visa. But since the employer remains responsible for her during the period following the cancellation of the visa except if he sends her back home or she's sponsored by another person, a lot of people prefer not taking any risk, including the payment of UAR dirhams 50,000 fine.
