the USA is "friends" with Egypt to keep them away from Soviet countries, in the ME you're either friends with the West or Russia/China... "don't make nice with Russia.. here, have some tanks.. oh btw can we use the Suez Canal?" etc etc! I always thought it was just about the Suez and oil. So much to learn about Middle East politics...

Doesn't he have right of abode to travel freely in the UK, since his wife and kids are British? If asylum seekers can get in without travel documents, they can hardly refuse Hosni. He is a good for the economy, plenty of dosh. Yeah he is a pretty smart one, is not he??? you know, Egypt before 25th, diplomats to be were hardly allowed ( or were not allowed depending on how well connected you were) to marry someone who is not Egyptian or half foreign, and his highness was the president of Egypt for 30 yrs, and his wife and children are British!! oh gush I am soo happy he is out:))) I hope they seize all the money he took from the egyptian people in the foreseable future and let justice take its course in Egypt!!! am soo happy!!

Bellydancer I'm from Australia, so you are right... not really exposed to this kind of stuff (thank goodness). But when you say "palace" I assume he must have his own, right. Surely the "Powers that be" would not provide for him? But aren't asylum seekers usually victims of despotic regimes not the despotic regimes themselves? At least that is how it is in Australia... Never assume anything in the UAE. NO, if they offer him refuge then they will provide for him. All in one package deal. Well, he will soon be a victim of a regime of sorts.

why the usa has to get involved with everything? everyone is talking about what obama says about Egypt... the USA is "friends" with Egypt to keep them away from Soviet countries, in the ME you're either friends with the West or Russia/China... "don't make nice with Russia.. here, have some tanks.. oh btw can we use the Suez Canal?" etc etc!

That's a worry. Does he have some kind of safe house in Dubai? Surely he wouldn't be in a hotel? Am concerned there might be assassination attempts and innocent people might be hurt. BMAP where did you come from? He will be in a palace if he is in the UAE. They do not do things in halves here.

and wasnt there articles and rumours a couple of weeks ago, that assets had been moved out here then? Along with wealthy 'elite' families in person? He strikes me as the type of person who would only leave as and when he had all his eggs lined up in a row.

arohadxb, are you sure UAE froze his assets? where did you get the info from? I know and it has been said that the Swiss gvnt took the initiative to do so, the same as they did with Bin Ali in Tunisia but as far as UAE is concerned I doubt such info...they actually didn't do it for the Tunisian dictatior and there are many associations and organizations that are still trying to negotiate with UAE to urge them take such an action wouldnt have a clue actually....just someone said earlier on this thread that dubai had. Just checked and she didnt site a source. Obviously rumours will abound at this time, I for one will be just waiting and seeing what happens.

There are rumours that Mubarak is seeking refuge in the UAE it said earler that dubai, amongst others, has frozen all his possible assets which doesnt sound that welcoming to me. Having said that both me and mr aroha would have laid good money on him coming here.

Buy me a Pony: Omar Suleiman has gone as well part of the old regime. Now the army and the civil associations ( there are no proper opposition parties in Egypt) will meet and organize a provisional government to prepare for elections and to revise the constitution that was change by the Mubarak regime in a way that him and then his son remain in power.

OMG what awesome news to wake up to! How on earth did it happen when 24 hours ago he was insisting he would stay till September!? Kudos to the Egyptians - may they now reach their full potential as a nation. So very happy to hear this. Actually, just an after thought... I can't see Suleiman's name mentioned anywhere in the reports I've come across. What is happenning with him? Who is the army going to report to? edited by Buy me a Pony on 12/02/2011
