I have Primperan 10mg (metoclopramide), does anyone know how often this can be given to a 3 and a half year old...I have lost the packaging insert :(

My DS (3 1/2) had this bug last week.... it seems that he had all the same for the first day or so... following on with the last stage having him running to the toilet every 10-15 mins for several hours! At that point though his temp was gone and he was drinking lots and nibbling on some food... 2 days further down the track he still seems to be catching up on sleep, but otherwise a healthy Monkey Boy!

Oh no am not giving anymore meds for nausea, don't worry was just wondering. Ok thanks, won't give it to her then, doesn't sound like good stuff...she has a fever now so just treating that at the moment. Thanks :) I hope she feels better soon Pingu, some nasty bugs around, if worried get her down to A & E or the docs. If she has specific tummy pain or you can't drop the fever def seek medical advice.

If your DD is no longer vomiting don't give her anything and try to get as much fluid into her as possible. If she is unwell or you are worried take her to a hospital rather than treat at home, there are some nasty bugs around but she may have another issue that you could be masking by giving her medication at home. Metoclopramide is a cheap anti sickness handed out and as GG says can have some nasty side affects.

Hi Georgiagirl, Thanks for your info. I was prescribed this a year ago when my DD was vomiting for over 24 hours at the ER here in Dubai. Looking at the box they have said to use it as needed!! I gave her one last night after vomiting for 3 hours every 10 minutes, she hasn't vomited again was just wondering the dosage. I will certainly look up trying to get hold of the other meds you have mentioned - thank you!

Pingu - I'm a pediatric nurse from the US. In my time as a hospital nurse, we did not give metoclopramide (we call it Reglan at home) to children. It can cause very serious side effects, so other nausea medicines are used. Are you able to get Zofran/Ondansetron for your child? This comes in dizzolvable tablets that work really well for children. If this was prescribed by your doctor for your child, call the doctor to ask about frequency. The adverse effect is called tardive dyskinesia if you want to look that up. I'm sorry if that isn't helpful, and I hope your baby feels better soon!
