Saw some in Lu Lu thsi weekend in the baking section. I have made a strawberry jam with granualted sugar and lemon juice and its worked. I think lemons contain a high amount of pectin and if you cant get jam sugar then add lemon juice and it works. I have also made apricot jam using the same technique. This was a Delia recipe some 10 years ago and ive made it many times and its always worked. !

Can you find pectin anywhere? That's what makes gelling sugar gel - it's halal so maybe you can google a recipe that uses pectin rather than the gelling sugar which includes pectin?
