So the agency maid comes to me with the "mam the vacuum is broken", the cord wont come out and when i press the rewind button i can hear its snapped...

So i ask her what she did, and she giggles.... so i ask again what she did with it last week (like i have used it in the meantime) and she just laughs...

WTF - obviously it's about a month out of warranty but did actually lose it with her, not so much that it was broken but the laughing. I wonder how funny she would find it if she had to replace it or was responsible for getting it mended.....

Well at least she's an agency maid, so the agency can take responsibility for it....

Ours broke our new vacuum about 3 months after we got it. So I bought a new one for me to use and keep it hidden in storeage and make her use a broom every time she comes. It's been a year and she hates it. Always asking if I have a vacuum and I tell her no because she broke the last one so she needs to sweep. My houseboy used to break all my hoovers untill I too gave him the broom he would ask my everyday to buy a new hoover, after a month I did so far so good huge Dyson, he has obviously banged alk the furniture but if he dares to do this one in the broom will be back. Yes its frustrating the sheer lack off care people have for your thiungs, I have gas man smash of of my tiles when we first moved in after I told him to be carefull, he put his foot over it! I didnt di it!!! Ive had garden/pool builders etch their name into the wall of my villa! ............ it goes on and on .......

I don't think too many people think that maids deliberately break appliances. I think it's more a case of being upset at the lack of care employed when using someone elses appliances.

It always amazes me how people give the impression that the maid does these things deliberately. If you don't want things to get broken then vacuum yourself and when it breaks you cannot blame anyone else. The cord in my vacuum has got stuck before whilst I have been using it and guess what I have even dropped the iron before and BTW I hum when stressed. Rant over It's not about doing things on purpose it's about the lack of care taken with things, especially when madam will buy a new one if it gets broken. I know she doesn't take care of things as the other week i was emptying it and found a whole mascara caught inside - this was in the bin, so she had basically vacuumed up the contents of the bedroom bin, rather than going and emptying it. Everyone breaks things, but when you aren't careful and don't take care of things they break a lot quicker.

Am in shock...... Just spoke to the agency manager and they are going to repair the vacuum...... Yaaay :) (and i didn't even have to argue / shout)and how long will that take? The maid is taking it with her, i presume that she will be bringing it back with her next week......

Izzy99, do you tip her usually? might want to have a quiet chat with her and explain that she won't be tipped anymore until the repair cost is recovered... that might stop the humming at least...

If you have a maid, you should only buy cheap vaccuum cleaners, for example the 1 brand at Carrefour. No just hand them a broom. Problem solved.. :D I think this is good advice.

But still has managed to break it...... It wasn't cheap either. And she is humming away like she doesn't have a care in the world..... ARGGGGGGGGGHHHHH If only i was too idle to clean myself..... :\:

As annoying as it is, Asians tend to laugh when they are nervous or embarrassed. I do too.... Drove my teachers (and parents) wild.....

Who would have believed that hovers and irons could be just so difficult for maids to use? Hope you get something back for the agency but doubt it.
