Hi,

Please can somebody advise; I would like to enter the job market in Dubai on a flexi or work from home basis. how does one go about seeking such opportunities, successfully? I have contacted 2 recruitment agencies who assist mums who would like to re-enter the job market on a part time / flexi basis. I wasn't able to speak to a consultant and was asked to email my CV and they would contact me if they have anything suitable. I was somewhat disappointed as being new in the country I have so many questions that I need assistance with.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated
CB

Hi Sadly it doesn't work that way no. Recruiters hire to client requirements and don't find employees work and rarely give advice. Due to workload and the amount of roles they may work on they would only invite candidates in if they have or will shortly have a position. The job market here is very different to that of the West as clients can be specific when it comes to languages/education/salary etc. Candidates are battling against persons who have UAE experience, speak several languages, will accept a lower salary etc etc. Whilst Linked in and Gulf Talent are a good tool for job seekers, candidates have to be very proactive and network, network, network. Pre 2009 agencies would meet everyone as they knew that there would be a role coming or they could send a CV out to a company that said person may be suitable for, sadly in the past few years this has changed drastically and most won't accept unsolicited applications. The job market is very different now post 2009

Thank you so much for your response sarahlou123 ?. I have 10 years experience as a recruitment consultant - agency and corporate. I just feel that submitting my CV for a role and waiting for a response is not proactive at all. I also believe that a face to face meeting is important so that a recruiter can get to know you as a person and understand your needs and provide advice. or is this not the way it works in the UAE? I'm just seeking understanding

What questions do you want to ask? Recruitment agencies here aren't the same as employment agencies. They will ask for your CV first and they have a suitable role will contact you. They are work for clients so they have to have a suitable role first
