When looking for a bone fide lawyer in Dubai, what do I need to check for regarding company status etc?
I dont want to engage a lawyer and then find out he has run off with my money and no where to be found.

Hi Shezza1 All lawyers must be licensed so you can check the Dubai Chamber website as a starting point. There are some law firms who specialise only in property law whereas other law firms offer a number of different legal services. Some advise individuals, others only advise corporations. Which you choose depends entirely on your needs and what you are looking for from a lawyer. Without a legal professional body in the UAE to help you narrow down the quality of providers, I would recommend you check out their websites to get a feel for their expertise, their tenure in the UAE and how professional they appear. Independent services such as Legal 500 (http://www.legal500.com/c/united-arab-emirates/real-estate) and Chambers Global (http://www.chambersandpartners.com/Global/Editorial/40578) can help too.
