We are due to leave Dubai at the beginning of the summer but my residence visa runs out at the end of next month, my DH is pushing me to get another one. I really want to avoid that as its issued in Sharjah and I still have the mental scars from three years ago when I had to go for my last medical !!

So, I would like to know if it is really essential for me to have a residence visa to function here, my main concern is if I can have a car registered to my name on a visitors visa.

Or is there a way to extend the residence visa for a short period??

Please help me ladies I really really dont want to go a sit for hours in a grotty Sharjah hospital on my own being push and pulled about!!

Thats a good point I hadn't thought about the insurance, I cant transfer the car to DH as he already has two and in Sharjah he had to jump through hoops to get his second one registered so a third is out of the question. I was hoping that there was a private clinic in Sharjah that may be able to do the medical, does anyone know or one??? Thx

You only need the registration card and insurance to reregister the car (and testing certificate if applicable), and you can now reregister at selected insurance companies. Your driving licence isn't revoked once you lose residency either. http://www.dubai.ae/en.portal?topic,renewcarreg,1,&_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=home Have you checked that your insurance is still valid, i thought that the named driver needed to be a resident and that some policies allow non residents to drive.....

Visa runs would be no problem as I am not working now and also have no problem with the idea of holidays every month but I was really worried about the car registration...

Why not just do visa runs to Hatta?

I have reregistered my car for two years in a row without a residence visa and nothing else seems to have been a problem either. Obviously you have to do the visa run every month though...or go away on holiday once a month!

Hi! Unfortunately if you're not a residence you can't really do anything! You can't rent a house, have a car registered to your name or anything like that really! It would be better to renew it! Im sorrryyy! I dont know about the short period extension though!
