Hello ladies.

I'm a Brit mum to two girls age 8 & 6 yrs and my husband's job is now bringing us to Dubai in the summer. We are currently back in the UK but have only been so for a year after previously being in Singapore as expats for 3 yrs.

I'm just trying to work things out timings wise and could do with a bit of input from you all.

Myself and husband are planning a weeks "look see" trip w/c 23rd May to check out 3/4 schools who have places for both my children, and to possible look at a couple of properties if we manage to decide a school. Its going to be a real hectic week.

In your experience do the schools normally carry out the assements on the children there and then if you decide to apply ? or do they call you back at another time ?
I'm just trying to work out if its best to take the children out of school for a week here in the UK and bring them along on the look see or to do that at a later date when the school has been decided upon ?

I've spoken with the schools and they are all giving different replies which isn't helping my over working brain to make a decision ! We have only known about the move for 1 week so I'm just trying to work out the best way to do this.

many thanks
Sam

Hi expatsaml, we've moved this thread to our schools and education board as it's more suitable! Thanks for your understanding :)

Thank you for your very speedy reply ! Your advice is exactly the way I wanted to go, but just didn't want to get there without the children and it be a waste of time. We are completely flexible with area my only concern is that the school is a right fit for the girls, they have had a fair amount of school moves so I know exactly what suits us now. I'm going to call back the schools we have appointments with and let them know I will be bringing along reports but not the children ! Thanks again !!

Sam, schools here are used to dealing with overseas children. Some schools will accept based on current school reports and others want the children to sit an exam - but often that can be done from overseas. There are so many schools now in Dubai, you won't have trouble finding a school to suit you as long as you are flexible on location. It is hotter than the surface of the sun already so not great for dragging children around from school to school. If I were you, I would leave them there, be as efficient here as you can and the school will be flexible enough to admit your children. Maybe, though, bring their latest school reports along.
