Does anyone know if you have to have a trade license just to set up a website?
As usual - things are never simple
Thanks

If you're not collecting any money then for the first year you won't need it. The second year, you'll need to get a commercial brokerage license. When you're ready for that send me an email to advice dot seeker at hotmail dot com and I can send you the details of a company who helps set that up.

If you want to run a dubai business then you clearly need a license. Running a website should not be assumed the same as running a business.

Note you can be based in Dubai but your website could be hosted in another country, e.g. UK. There are plenty of companies which help you develop websites and host them as well. If you need some recommendations then let me know. But if the time comes when OP wants/needs to make monetary transactions of any kind, then I believe regardless of where the site is hosted, if you are buying/selling with Dubai businesses, you'll need to be licensed. Could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's the case. edited by gleekfamily on 04/01/2011

It depends on what you want to do with your website, will you be taking money for anything?
