Hello. I too stay in marina area and my flat too includes washer/dryer, fridge, microwave etc. Furniture on the other hand took sometime because as the other ladies pointed out it is pretty expensive. I'm very grateful to my colleague for recommending Lucky novelties and gifts to me. They have solid wood furniture at affordable prices. My entire home is furnished from pieces I bought from them. Good Luck

If your shipping is free - take advantage of it. Things here can be double the price that of UK - eg currently have been looking at vacuum cleaners. Amazon.co.uk had small Miele vacuums at about GBP90+ (they were all reduced on amazon) - but here I saw those models even in Carrefour super market at well over AED900 which is double the price. You wont find that sort of thing reduced here. Also shopping here is really exhausting and it is hard to find unbiased opinion in shops! Even buy new things you think you may want or need to bring with you. I think there is a tax on commercially imported goods ( it is only 5%?).

Hi I'm hoping some you who have been through this before can advise please. We are relocating from London to Dubai and DH's company is paying for shipping. As such, are we being foolish in trying to avoid shipping because we want to travel as light as possible. We are travelling with 2 children. My DH wants to just buy whatever we need from Dubai but I am concerned that if things are a lot more expensive in Dubai we will regret not buying things from here and shipping them. I understand that generally rental homes in Dubai tend to be unfurnished and we will even need to bring our own white goods. Are their any items that are ridiculously expensive in Dubai that you would recommend we purchase from here or any items that we may need but tend to be hard to source? Or would you say that purchasing from Dubai will be more convenient. Especially since we have no idea what the dimensions etc of our home will be. I will be massively grateful for any advice on this subject. Many thanks in advance! We arrived a week ago from Australia (originally from the UK) and left all our belonging in storage. lets just say I've spent a week travelling around umpteen shopping centers and furniture stores to find very little which suits our taste and at our budget. We've just placed a AEU12000 order with ikea. Stock was also very limited with their stock. I currently think our best option would have been to bring our things with us. One positive is you can request delivery and assemble as part of the service from Ikea. We've secured a two bed apartment in one of the Trident building in Dubai Marina, it has an amazing view. But it also came with all the white goods, washer dryer, fridge freezer, microwave. Our lease also includes the aircon, thankfuly as it's still pretty warm out here. bye:

I don't find sofas and furnishings the best for choice here ( curtains, rugs, cushions etc) We have some amazing furniture shops ( The One, Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, Marina) etc but wow are they expensive. Other items such as white goods are about the same if not cheaper than the UK however with the tumbling exchange rate they may work out slightly more expensive. All the big supermarkets sell white goods and they constantly have sales on. If you have a decent sofa, living room furniture/bedroom furniture etc I would ship them if you could With regards to other items these are expensive here Washing Liquid ( Ariel/DAZ) lenor concentrated fabric softener Pork products Alcohol Makeup branded stuff MAC/Clinique/Bobby Brown etc Perfume Stock up on your favourite bits as they may not sell them here or cost 30% more
