Well it seems there is another thread up that happy JBR residents started in response to this one. I didnt post to indiscriminately slate a particular neighbourhood, in fact it was written along the lines to support the earlier posts of how inconsiderate some visitors to the area can be. This place had long been promoted and marketed as a place for residents to raise families and enjoy living basically, and the reality of it is that at weekends hordes of people stomp in like there's a parade in town, back traffic up for hours, hog tables and turn chairs around to sit and watch like they are at the Paris Fashion Week, play loud music and generally behave like its a free playground. I even saw lots of local and expat young adults obviously picking each other up - like its a nightclub - as how they do in certain malls or outside cineplexes. Atrocious behaviour. It felt like we are all just barging into someone else's home and playing with their toys without asking first! So invasive.

And while we are on the topic of JBR, why is the service at nearly all the restaurants completely atrocious? I have had incredibly bad service nearly every time I have tried to eat there! Paul's and Chili's are alright, but for such a busy place, you'd think the other restaurants would make more of an effort. yes, actually our default position is that if we get good service, then its a bonus p.s Chili's food is rank!

I felt very sorry for the poor residents who actually had to live there. I remember telling DH what if someone were to have a medical emergency on a weekend or need to get home quick? This street SHOULD be closed off for residents and owners only. Nightmare. On this note- we were on the Walk last weekend with some guests. Had lunch in the Butcher's Grill watching the beach when people starting screaming and there was commotion. Someone came running into the restaurant asking if there was a doctor and a guy went with him. They were also on the phone calling for an ambulance. 30 minutes (!) later an ambulance came, making its way through the traffic jam of inconsiderate drivers who didn't make room. But even the helicopter coming shortly afterwards didn't help... we heard that someone had drowned on the beach. Aparently it was a 40 something Brit tourist. He was on holiday with his bit on the side, apparently his wife thought he was away on business in America !!!! Not sure which would have been the greatet shock. I don't know whether or not the late arrival of the ambulance made any difference to survival in this particular case. However, if it had been a heart attack or a stroke or something where every second matters, 30 minutes for an ambulance car and helicopter is a death penalty...

After hearing nonstop about JBR walk, DH and I decided to venture out with DD a few months ago, and boy did we regret it! It was total turmoil, traffic snaking as far as the eye could see, DH dropped us off and dissapeared to the end of the line where he finally found a spot while DD and I took in the ambience and tried not to come under the feet of people thronging past. No one actually seemed to be doing any shopping, everyone was just whiling away the time. There was a total and utter lack of soul to the place, it seemed like a movie set, cant explain it any better. As soon as DH found us I had to take a toilet break, nightmare to find one, and got into a Starbucks that was filthy and the loo smelled. Beat a hasty retreat to the beach and watched the madness from afar. Took us 20-30 minutes to get the car out of the U-turn and back on the way home. Scores of cars thought it was ok to blare the loudest music from their crystal clear audio surround systems. We quickly rolled windows up, but what about those with sleeping babes in the apartments? Swore to ourselves, NEVER again. I felt very sorry for the poor residents who actually had to live there. I remember telling DH what if someone were to have a medical emergency on a weekend or need to get home quick? This street SHOULD be closed off for residents and owners only. Nightmare. Had much the same experience-some friends drove us down as we wanted to take a look-never again-it was a nightmare getting in and out-couldn't even find an empty table to have a coffee as loads of people were hogging the tables after they had finished their drinks

Go buy some eggs and drop them out the window onto the people making all the noise. That's what my dad used to do, gives you some satisfaction if nothing else.

So many people had tried to convince us to move to JBR when we were house hunting 2 years ago. Almost everyone told us they didn't hear the noises from the street. We had finally gotten a broker to agree to show us an apartment during the evening hours one night. Man oh man were we glad we hadn't signed a lease there. I have a friend who recently rented a terraced apartment on the 1st floor of JBR. She is regretting it highly.

I moved out this week. Can't stand JBR. Full of kids, smell of food and grease in car parks from restaurants, buildings need maintaining better and yes, the noise from the traffic is terrible. So glad that I am out of there. There are so many other good buildings about that are close to the beach etc but don't thank goodness carry these side effects. yes, we have lived in 2 diff apartmnets in the Marina, JLT, Greens, Springs briefly - JBR is the worst for the reasons you are saying, plus I think the buildings might be crumbling. There are cracks in steps, paving slabs and walls but the showstopper is the non-stop racket at night. Funny how you dont see or hear how bad it might be when you are simply visiting the place to meet a friend for coffee. now its 8pm, there's an eerie calm down below. Give it 5 hours though.... LOL

That's one thing that really gets me about here, the noise and the complete lack of consideration for other people. You hear car horns blasting at al hours of the night, and it's not just a toot-toot, people will sit on their horns for 30-60 seconds until someone comes out to reply or whatever. One thing that makes me want to kill is people hammering and drilling (inside apartment buildings) at ungodly hours when people need do sleep. They have absolutely no concept of consideration for others.

A few years back I lived in the Garden View Villas for a couple months, and would awaken to construction crews, jackhammers, and the beep beep beep of obnoxious vehicles backing up - I don't think they are allowed to start work so early any more, but boy I was glad to be out of there! Now after living in JBR for over 3 years, I won't live anywhere else. On the 30th floor with Marina view, in the evening we do hear car horns and motorcycles, but it has never kept me awake, or awakened me. I guess I'm either a heavy sleeper or have just learned to tune it out! Good luck in your search for a quiet zone!

We moved out of JBR because of the traffic noise, we loved living there for every other reason but just couldn't get a good nights sleep, particularly at the weekend. I really think that The Walk should be closed to traffic completely. I feel for you Sarahkay686 and hope your lease is up soon so you can get some undisturbed sleep :)

I don't think it matters where you live it's a weekend thing, I had car horns and alarms and people revving their engines at all hours in Bur Dubai and now in Mirdif I can hear motorbikes all night long driving like crazy... I have dark thoughts!!

Heard it was a terrible place for noise especially at the weekend. Go buy yourself some earplugs, I've been using them since we arrived 4 years ago.
