I would have very much second thoughts taking maids to UK, US, or anywhere else for that matter. Do you know just how many of them have absconded whilst there? Seems to be a virtual racket... and it does not matter just how good they have it here and are well treated. Perhaps some inquiries with your consultates/embassies would be prudent!

As long as you fill in the correct forms and write a covering letter, and she has been with you a minimum 1 yr (as per visa) and that your 6 month bank docs are included, then it should be ok. Make sure you prepare everything exactly as is required or you could lose your visa application money. We take ours and have never has an issue. Only OZ will not usually grant visas for Indonesian maids. If anyone would like to know what to write in the covering letter, I keep mine in my docs on the pc and just change the date on it every 6 months (her visa is always multiple entry 6 month). edited by vero possumus on 15/03/2011

Thanks Claire. Will apply and keep you all posted just so we have an up to date benchmark. Would be interested to know how you get on as we might well do that with ours this summer as she doesn't seem to want to go back home this year and thinks she might prefer to take the money......so maybe it would be good for her to see the UK with us..... I take it that she's been with you for longer than 12 months then.... Claire, seriously taking your maid to the UK??? Come on don't turn into a Dubai expat! She can stay and cat sit or dog sit for someone and earn a few bob on the side. Nooooooo not from a dubai expat thing - I'd like to show her London and where we come from etc - she's been with us for quite a while now and just thinking this evening that it might be a nice thing to do for her - only if she chooses not to go home for the summer......

Hello - Anyone know off hand the rules for taking a Phillipina maid to the UK for 1 monthly periods? Thanks in advance. I'll be amazed if you manage this. A friend of mine was unable to take his then relatively new Indonesian wife to the UK to visit family last year though a more recent visa application after the birth of their first baby was approved and they now live there so I'm not certain there is any logic being applied.

a really good friend of mine did it last summer and it was fine (but her housemaid had been working for her for over 12 full months) If your housemaid has not been on your sponsorship for at least a year then it's not even worth completing the forms. I know another family here who completed the paperwork and their housemaid had been with them for almost 2 years but they were turned down......never found out why.....

AS far as I know she needs to be on your sponsorship for more than a year, otherwise their shouldn't be any problem.
