I think it is a great place to live! It's not the prettiest place with all the construction going on but it is convenient to Sheikh Zayed Road, 10 minutes from all the malls, has some good supermarkets and you can walk to the nice restaurants/bars at the Grand Millennium, Media Rotana and Byblos hotel.
You are best driving/walking around to look at what buildings you like the look of and then arranging viewings. There are quite a few in walking distance of the metro.
