I took my application in last Wednesday evening, about 6pm and got it all done in about half an hour. we were told we would only be issued a 1 month single entry visa and needed the hotel confirmation, copies of passport and visa page, original passports and two passport photos (allegedly on a white background but mine on light blue got through - naughty!) did the same thing back in september last year, didn't need the hotel confirmation and got a 6 month no worries, they seem to just change their mind! DH can't go anymore becuase he gets in such a rage!

Just an Update about the visa thing. When you have a multiple entry tourist visa, you are allowed to re-enter the country only after 60 days. AND is you want to renew your tourist visa, you have to submit the form 60 days or more after your last exit of India. Which means, that, when you want to redo your visit visa, you have to count one week gap. For example, my last exit was on Jan. 16th. My visa finish on March 15th. I want to re-enter on March 18th (so it's more than 60 days between my 2 visits). BUT I can not apply for my visa before March 16th as my last exit was on Jan. 16th; which leads me to have my visa on the 22nd. Just to update the infos. ;)

Just thought I'd update... Went to karama post office at 8am on tuesday and it was dead...I was seen straightaway. I took MBs advice and they said Ll was in order,,,and I would get my passport back on Monday. It arrived back today..painless procedure... Though I can confirm that you do need a hotel confirmation and you will only find this out when you get there. Iwhilst i was waiting for them to type out my form I was nosing at the notice board and it is a requirement that came into force at the time of the commonwealth games. Visa is valid for 3 months and is a single entry visa. Thanks for the tips!

Miss Balcony, can you be more precise on the Business Visa ? I need to do one. Does it really take 10 days to do ? (In that case too late for me). Also, for information on TOURIST VISA for INDIA : even if you have a multiple entry, you are not allowed to enter again India within 60 days. That means you have to have a least two months between 2 visits in India. It's a quite new rules (during this year) and the only exceptions are emergency (how car you have emergency on tourist visa ?) and some border countries if you want to visit them while in India.

Thanks for the tip miss balamory... I went to check today even with my letter I need a hotel confirmation so I'll do just that. Just out of interest...is the visa valid from time of entry or time of issue or according to the hotel booking... The 24th is a special black out date so no cancellation allowed on that day so I have just requested from 25th jan. Also will I have to show my hotel confirmation docs upon arrival?

Good evening everyone, I need to get a tourist visa for India - for those who have had it done what's the best time to go to Karama Post Office and were the queues long? Just trying to gauge how long I might need.... Any advice greatly appreciated! I have done it twice (once on a Saturday mid-afternoon and once mid week mid-morning), never had to wait for more than 5 minutes... Maybe I have been lucky but it seemed like a very efficient setup and queue-less.
