Treadmill Buying Advice... or Elliptical?

I visited my in-laws over the weekend and their building has a gym, so I brought a book there and had a fab time reading while walking/jogging... I want that at home! I like home exercise but lately the set-up time of clearing the living room, casting the exercise video, not being able to be "mindless" or reading while exercising has been a deterrent.

So I'm researching and decided that I prefer not to buy used, want to buy in-shop and have a 1-year warranty at least. Decathlon has the Domyos Energy Run for 3,700dh and 100 dh delivery + assembly with a 1-year warranty and service possible thereafter. Zoul has a distributor in Sharjah with a good-looking machine (Zoul B9390) for 2,680dh including delivery with a 1-year warranty, and home servicing for 150 thereafter. Any other places or machines I should check out?

Also, I was thinking that the treadmill would be fine for my joints esp. these that have a cushioning system. But should I consider an elliptical? Isn't the impact generally good for women?

An elliptical trainer is very low impact on your joints unlike a treadmill. It also has the benefit of the push/pull bars which hekp to tone the arms, as well as the ability to be used in reverse which exercises the muscles differently. It is also a somewhat smaller piece of equipment - I keep ours in a corner of our study/4th bedroom. As an aside, ours came in particularly useful for getting back mobility and muscle repair after I broke my hip earlier this year. I was able to exercise gently within 10 weeks of the operation to repair the broken bone and the almost zero impact was a huge factor in this. Ours is now just over two years old. We bought it in Carrefour (here in Muscat) for just under the equivalent of aed1,000 which included delivery and assembly, and a one year warranty. It's still going strong and only needs the occasional squirt of light oil. I would estimate that I've averaged somewhere in the region of 50km / week so I don't think it owes me anything.
