My DH was born in Nigeria to British parents. Our first son has been born in Dubai and having gone to the BE,
I was told I have fill in another form for them to send to the Home Office in London. This process will take 4-6 weeks. I was also told that our baby will get British Citizenship by descent. Has anyone any experience on this? can I get a relative to apply for this in London to save on the 4-6 weeks time frame.

Best people to ask would be the British Embassy/consulate, things change and public may not be up to date on all facts.

I haven't been through this, but I do know that by descent means that your grandchildren will not automatically qualify for British citizenship through your son's side. Obviously if your son lives in the UK and marries a British woman, his kids will have citizenship from her side. Assuming your son does [i'>not[/i'> marry a Brit, he will have to prove ties to the UK in order for his children to have citizenship. I believe this includes things like living in the UK for at least 3 consecutive years, etc. Being born in Britain does not automatically give a person British citizenship. Can't help you with speeding up the procedure, though. edited by Bisha on 25/01/2011
