Hi! Sorry to hijack but i see assessments for F 1 took palce already!!! MArianna, any clue if they did F 2 at the same time????? They told me April but now i´m wondering..... Why not just call up admissions? Im sure they can give you an immediate answer. Thank you Appletiser! I´ve called so many times i feel bad....lol! they said it would be April last time i called. But when i read F1 had it on March 1st i wondered. i´ll call again Haha! Well its their jobs isnt it? ;)

On reputation too I would sway towards Wellington Intl. Never really heard anything much positive about DBS I see it as distinctly average. The head that got the school an 'outstanding' with the KHDA is moving though to DSO GEMS, be interesting to see if they loose their crown after he goes! Nope it's the ex head of JC not Wellington and the Junior head of Wellington Int is excellent, think there is movement in Senior school there re the head and did hear something about the Head but have forgotton now! LOL MY apologies SW, saw that on the DSO thread.

I dont have kids in either schools but based purely on reputation and what I have heard I would take Wellington Intl. Many thanks Appletiser for your opinion....you know.....It's so difficult. I heard at Wellington Int. they don't give homeworks at primary school (and I think this is so wrong!!) + too many students in the class + they don't learn as much as at DBS............ The more homework, the more likely the school is a) not delivering during school hours b) old fashioned in it's approach, bordering rote learning. Home should consist of daily spelling and a book to read and once weekly literacy and maths.

Hi Kt, DBS Primary kids get PE and swimming at school. There are after school clubs, school organised which are free and others run by outside companies, (karate, gymnastics, etc) at extra charge of course, though not sure if Foundation kids are included in these. A company called Libra run camps during the school holidays. Check with school reception about these. There are usually brochures lying on the front desk at DBS. I have always found DBS teachers really helpful and happy to answer any questions I've had. Putting a note in the homework diary seems to work well rather than bothering them at the start or the beginning of the day when they are really busy. Any time I've asked for an appointment with a teacher I've been given one without a fuss. Hope this helps

You're probably right Trixibell I was probably just unlucky with my timing. The day I toured FS1 + FS2 I was wearing long touching the floor trousers so naturally that would have to be the day the lav floor was covered in wee! :) Visitors have to rely on first impressions only, parents know better, so feedback very appreciated. A max. of 19 children to 1 teacher +1 assistant at DBS is better than 25 kids to 1 teacher + 2 assistants at DIA (which is the other place we have our son registered at). Haven't registered DS at Wellington, just DBS, DIA + Kings (sadly not a chance there). Jammiemonster + Trixibell do you find your kids get lots of physical exercise? Is it easy to chat to their teachers at pick up+ are you kept informed of what your kiddies are learning/doing in class? Marianna, if my little guy is successful on the March 1st assessment day at DBS + we go with it + your DD also decides to take the offer then absolutely playdates would be fab! We are in the Greens, so already neighbours. If DBS run summer camps too I'll be sending him to those to get him as familiar with the space as I can before term starts.

Hi Marianna, my oldest boy is in FS2 at DBS and I am extremely happy with it. It has such a nice community feel. I have done a tour of Wellington and it looks great too, more facilities than DBS definitely. It depends i think on what you are looking for in the school as Wellington foundation unit is very play based, learning through play etc where as DBS is a bit more structured. My son has homework and 2 readers a week plus a wordbook, he learns 10 words per night and if read correctly the next day gets a new list. He is quite advanced so he now spells the 10 words each day. So I think it's good that they have noticed he can do more and are challenging him. The class size is great at DBS, a maximum of 19 kids in FS1 and 2 and then it goes up to 25 for Year 1. Hi Marianna, My boys are at DBS and can't say I have ever found it to be scruffy. In fact, any time I've been at the school there seems to be an army of cleaners mopping and dusting and tidying!! Maybe you were unlucky and the floor was messed up just before you arrived!! Anyway, don't know much about Foundation but we are really happy with the primary school. Boys love it and tbh standards are as high as their school back in the UK. My youngest is dyslexic and he gets far more support at DBS than he ever got at home. Good luck - it's not easy finding school places in Dubai

Also trying to decide whether DBS is right for my DS entering FS1 in 2011. The little kiddies did appear to be happy + I liked the bustle. IMHO it does look very scruffy though! And I did observe that it wasn't too clean, wee wee all over the floor in the FS1 toilets etc. I thought Wellington was smarter + had newer facilities, but I 'felt' it to be a bit more reserved + less friendly than DBS. Could well be wrong though. Has anyone send their kids to a Summer Camp at DBS, maybes that would be a good way introducing DS to the school so he gets comfortable with the space before term starts? I need to enquire about their settling in period. Marianna, maybe nearer the date + if you do accept a place at DBS for your DD for FS1 in Sept. you'd like to meet for a playdate?

Thanks fairycakeyumm!I went for a tour in both schools and I like them both but at Wellington the facilities are better (If I remember well). Yesterday I've received from DBS an appointment for the 1st March for the assessment then I will have 5 days only to decide to register or no my daugther. I've called Wellington (my daugther is on its waiting list since last february) and they told me they will let me know April or sooner....so...now I'm confused on what to do!

My dd goes to DBS she has been going for the last 3 years. In primary years. She use but to go to wellington primary but we didnt like it there, at the time it was a brand new school and we wasnt impressed with the facilities. Dbs has a good size pool and tennis/basketball courts and the fs playgrounds are great. We are very happy with the school and the teachers and my other dd will be starting FS1 there 2012. Have u been round both schools ? i believe DBS have smaller class sizes then wellington Int, and not as many students. We chose DBS as it felt more of a community school than wellington international.
