Grr! I am furious now!

I have just discovered the stupid girl who came to help me last Thursday did some ironing in the back room where there is a second fridge which had bulk meat stored in it. The plug is a double plug and the iron was plugged in to it with the second chord clearly running to the fridge.

Well, it's now Tuesday and my husband just opened the fridge and discovered she had turned it off following ironing!!!!

This girl also knocked over and broke a very heavy 1000 dirham sculpture which was a gift to my husband during her visit. I don't know how as it was a low set sculpture. She tried to upright it and continue working when I came to investigate the noise!

I emailed pictures to the company and no reply.

This is the same company whose girl dropped my husband's cufflinks that were gifts from his parents 20 years ago for his eighteenth birthday down the drain and chose to say nothing about it until I rang the agency asking had she stolen some items from his bathroom. No, she hadn't, she said, she dropped them down the drain. Sorry!

Had she told me straight away I could have put my hand in there and picked it out!

Grrrr!!

I have just had the pleasure of listening to my poor husband gagging whilst trying to fix the fridge!

Spare yourself the problem and avoid Ready Maids!

MM the company I use is good (tried several other agencies before them), they bring the girls in from the Philippines, train them thoroughly for a couple of weeks, take good care of their accommodation and are flexible with the hours. 30 dirhams per hour. Sorry to hijack but Katja would you mind telling me the company's name and their number please? I am a bad need of finding a good company. Cheers Curly Of course I do not mind, but didn't want the thread to be deleted. Google Bonbini dubai.

Yes perhaps you are right..... I would have not only suffered the breakage but my peace of mind though if I took her earnings for the month and I like my peace of mind!

Izzy At the end of the session when it came to me paying I asked her about the breakage and she said the company will take it from her salary and I simply couldn't have that given that I know they earn low salaries. I told her then I should not be charged for the afternoon's work and she said ok she would pay it and went to get her purse and even that I couldn't penalise her as I still imagined that would be maybe ten percent of her earnings for the month which seemed a steep penalty relatively speaking. I was supposed to pay 140 dirhams so I paid 100 dirhams and gave her the penalty of the 40 dirhams which she accepted. However now I realised she ALSO turned off my fridge and freezer!!!! Now I want blood! Grrr!!! I shall be putting ina phone call tomorrow to Ready Maid to make a serious complaint and taking my business elsewhere! edited by MarinaMelanie on 01/02/2011 well in that case you have enabled her incompetence...... Am sorry but just because someone earns less that you doesn't mean they shouldn't be accountable and responsible..... edited by Izzy99 on 01/02/2011

I have used helping hands on a number of occassions and I have never had a problem. They employ Sri Lankan ladies and only charge 25dirhams. The number is 043311918.

It's a shame to lose such valuable and sentimental items through a maid's incompetence. The few irons and cups our maid has broken don't seem so bad in comparison.

The company should have insurance.... i would actually go and see the manager and say that you want compensation and that they need to claim on thier insurance..... if they give you any cr&p - call the police.

In my experience (in Geneva) of Filipina and Portuguese cleaning ladies, their instinct is to try to hide any mistakes they have made. I have always told my ladies who do that I want to know immediately if they break something or some sort of accident happens and I won't be cross or ask for money as long as I'm told, I just need to know. The only ones who have taken me at my word were Columbian, for some reason.

Sounds like a total incompetent! Yes to work as a maid you do need some skills and perhaps some common sense. Problem is these companies bring these girls over and some get no proper training even. They are send off to whatever. Not fair on clients and not fair exactly on the girls who work as maids either. My friend had a maid from an agency that would put dirty dishes from the dishwasher in the cupboards.

No, the girl broke the sculpture then turned the plug off to the fridge. A previous lady from the same agency dropped my husband's cufflink case and they scattered everywhere. I heard the noise and came to check if she was ok and she said yes and she was picking them up. Then three silver cufflinks had gone missing and my husband only noticed a few days later so I called the agency asking if she had taken them and she said no she hadn't they had fallen down the drain! The manager came and put his arm down the drain (it's not deep) and there was still one in there, a heavier one had not been washed away but the lighter ones had been washed away, including the most sentimentally valuable one, the gift to my husband from his parent for his eighteeneth birthday. If she just had told me at the time it never would have been a problem and she clearly knew it had happened! They just seem to empoly stupid or dishonest girls. They don't seem to train them in what to do should they make a mistake. Anyone got a great agency they use? I always work with my lady and we get everything done in an afternoon, just prefer to have help and do it in half a day once a week than spend a whole day! I am pregnant now too so I really need some reliable help more than ever! edited by MarinaMelanie on 01/02/2011

MM - Do you mean that in just one session she dropped cufflinks down the drain, broke a sculpture and unplugged your fridge???
