Hi
My obs has asked if I want the 32 week scan? I asked if I needed it and she said it was up to me? Does anyone know what this is for? I have been having regular small scans every 4 weeks, but ot sure if another big scan is needed?

Hi My obs has asked if I want the 32 week scan? I asked if I needed it and she said it was up to me? Does anyone know what this is for? I have been having regular small scans every 4 weeks, but ot sure if another big scan is needed? The third trimester scan has recently become standard in the UK (when I had my two babies there 5/6 yrs ago it wasn't). There are two reasons as far as I know 1) regular growth scan to check baby's size in third trimester 2) check to see blood flow in and out of the placenta/ cord (this has apparently saved many babies lives, hence it is now routine). It's also a good opportunity to see a 3d or 4d image of your baby. Entirely up to you if you want it, I always said yes to a chance to see my little one in HD ;) I also took my older children to this last big scan so they got a chance to see their new sibling before he was born.

I agree with Daza, providing all is ok 12 and 20 weeks are the main high res ones to get. I hadn't heard of one at 28 or 32 weeks. We do have quick low res scans at every check up which is nice so not sure if that is what you are meaning. I just like seeing DD and make sure she is growing.

I've only ever had big scans at 12 weeks and 20 weeks with all of my babies. It's totally up to you what scans you have so just do what makes you feel comfortable.

For as far as I know the most important ones are 12 week, 20 week and 28 week scan. All the other scans are for our own peace of mind and to see our little bubba on the monitor. I had my scan at 28 weeks including anti-D testing + glucose testing. Will now have my 32 week scan, probably after this the doctor will ask me to see me every 2 to 3 weeks, that is normal in Dubai. It is completely up to you if you feel you need it or not.
