9 week old loss of appetite - when to worry?
Hi Ladies
For those of you familiar with my posts, DD suffers from silent reflux and has been admitted to hospital twice. She normally takes the recommended amount of milk for her age and weight (I am using 150ml for every 1kg rule). She weighs 5.2kg and for the past two days has been reluctant to take her milk. Of course I am aware that reflux babies should take less and more often and/or are sometimes likely to refuse to take milk as a defence mechanism against acid and heartburn. However, DD has taken only 520ml yesterday and so far 320ml today. Normally her appetite is much greater. She has had very little sleep today and keeps constantly waking unless she is in our arms. Normally she sleeps in her cot on a wedge to aid with reflux. Another worry is that the wet coughs are now more frequent and occurring when she is trying to sleep - I'm on edge thinking that should could choke in her sleep or stop breathing.
Last time we were in hospital, I was told that it is normal for babies to vary their volume intake but with her reflux problems and several wet choke-type coughs, I am wondering whether another hospital visit might be required? We are seeing her paed on Sunday ... is there a need for us to visit hospital in the meantime?
