Hi All,
I am pregnant with our 3rd child, and due to my age, and also my double marker test results, my baby has a high risk of chromosonal abnormalities, specifically T18 and borderline risk for T13, T21 has been cleared.

I am booked to have a amniocentisis at Fetal Medicine Centre Duba healthcare city, unforunately I can not have the sample taken until July 7th, as that will be my 15 weeks of gestation, and Dr. Pour Mirza is away on leave until August. Therefore we have the option of having Dr. Farah Soraya, who used to be at Al Wasl hospital. My concern is that the amniocentisis procedure has a 1% risk of miscarriage. Also our 1st child Aryan, was stillborn at fullterm, due to a Dr's mistake, therefore my and my husband are very nervous on choosing the wrong Dr. again.

Are there any mother's here who have had any experience with Dr. Farah Soraya, particularly with Amniocentisis, and not just a detailed ultrasound scan, who can give me some feedback on her ability to carry out this procedure.

Our next option is to fly to the UK have the procdure done at the fetal medicine centre in London, but ofcourse flying there with 1 toddler and my food allergies is easier said than done...I am a nervous wreck, after the procedure for the following 5 days I will be petrified.

Ok, slowly slowly. Hope you have a good day today in remembering your beautiful son. My heart goes out to you. I'm glad the doctors are being gentle with you. Hugs.

Sorry ladies, we did meet with Dr. Farah Soraya, and I found her to be cautious Dr., she has recommended that we do a detailed scan on the 11th of July instead of the scheduled amnio, as I am very scared of the procedure. If the detailed scan finds any suspicious soft markers of the chromosonal abnormality, then an Amnio can be done. She seems to be leaning towards that the baby is healthy.....fingers crossed. I will let you know how it goes after the 11th, maybe may post on my nervousness before then. Today is my 1st son's birthday, and i had a really bad day on the 27th, which is my birthday, need to have those in order to get it out of me. So Happy Birthday Aryan, hoping your are well and happy.

Mothers thank you for your reply, and I am meeting with Dr. Farah today afternoon, and will be asking some questions, made a list, and already 12 questions and counting. Good to hear the positive stories here, and experiences with FMC Dubai.

Big Hugs Jampoos! I know what a difficult time this must be for you! I had a CVS procedure done at the FMC. I too didn't have Dr. Mirza as he was unavailable at the time and saw the available consultant instead. All I can say he was beyond professional. As M&S said, the FMC is a standard of excellence in the region. All the staff there are experts in their fields, and highly capable. If they weren't they wouldn't be working for FMC in the first place. Good luck. xxx

Jampoos First of all, big hugs. After the tragic loss of your son Aryan you are understandably nervous. Perhaps ask Dr Farah how many amnio she preforms monthly and what her m/c rate is? I know that Dr Pour Mirza's is much better than the publicised rate. The FMC is a standard for excellence in the region and is set up to emulate the UK. I can't give you any reports on Dr Farah, other than a brief ultra sound post a CVS but she seemed a very competent, kindly professional. Best of luck with your pregnancy and I hope your ammnio goes smoothly and your results are good. FTR i had 50:50 chance of Chromosmal abnormalies with DS but all was well with that CVS and i've just tucked the perfect, gorgeous boy into bed.

Hi Jampoos, I had a Amnio with Dr. Farah a while back, I can only give postitive feedback, I felt no pain at all only slight discomfort. (my DH on the other hand almost passed out from the pain of me squeezing his hand) But She was brilliant in every way. Dr. Mirza was there as weel but did not carry out the procedure, which in a way I was happy about as sometimes his bedside manners are less then desireable. The 1% chance of miscarriage is really small and she will tell you that they have never had a case where someone has had a miscarriage due to the Amnio procedure at FMC. I had a 1 in 4 chance that our baby was downs, hence the reason for our decision to take the Amnio, I was willing to risk the 1% against the 25% chance of having a Downs baby. The days following are the worst, but just keep positive and surround yourself with friends and family, keep busy and the time will fly by. Goodluck!!
