Zeynab, I was on 50mcg and increased to 75mcg before my 1st successful pregnancy and then moved again up to 100mcg prior to my 2nd successful pregnancy. I am sorry I am not able to tell you what is the best course of action for you personally, Your Dr is the only one that can, but I hope in sharing this info it will give you hope. Good luck and I wish you all the best in your quest.

First of all my condolences for your father, May Allah grant him forgiveness and jannah. As for your question, yes I was on eltroxin when I got pregnant last year. Thankfully my levels we're stable and never changed my dosage. My levels were monitored monthly during pregnancy. I do have hashimotos. I am diagnosed and on medication (50) since 2010.

Hi Zeynab, I have conceived and have given birth to two very healthy children since being on Eltroxine. I sadly MC my first pregnancy when I was newly diagnosed. I have been extremely lucky as I have had/still have some wonderful Dr's since I was diagnosed 9yrs ago. As a result, I now specialise in Thyroid Issues as a nutritionist/health coach. Firstly, your thyroid blood tests will generally not show any change in level within 6 weeks of changing your dose so .. by the time you found out you are pregnant and you change the dosage your body will not experience the benefit until 4-6weeks later. Many Dr's increase dosage before conception for that reason. This needs to be done under the strict guidance of a Dr as too much dosage making you hyper can also have a detrimental effect. You also mention antibodies - do you have Hashimoto's?? Are you seeing a Dr here in DXB?

Thanks DohaHW, actually I have a thyroid specialist here and he is the one who put me on medication as I have positive antibodies for this so doctor recommends me to keep on taking this medicine through out life.i have to go after every six to 8 weeks for thyroid profile test.

I agree with M, definitely see a doctor who looks at TSH, T3 and T4 when controlling your medication dosages, it's really important. If your TSH level is increasing when you concieve, then you need your dose increasing. My dose was increased as soon as I got pregnant. I now have a 12 week old daughter, so yes, definitely successful! Hope that helps!

Hi, yes I have been on thyroid meds for several years and didn't have problems. Might be worth getting an opinion from docs who also consider t3 and t4 tests not just tsh. Dr Duha at Dubai London clinic is very good in this regard. Thanks M, but did u have kids with being hypothyroid n while u were on medication. Actually I really wanna hear some successful pregnancy stories.

I have. When you say your TSH is fine, what is the actual figure? it's 1.6 now but as soon as I conceive it gets higher than the reference range. I had no problems conceiving with my TSH under 1, and had a miscarriage before my underactive thyroid... Did u conceive again with successful pregnancy then?

I have. When you say your TSH is fine, what is the actual figure? The endocrinologist I saw in the UK told me that women with an underactive thyroid often have trouble conceiving because they continue with symptoms of an underactive thyroid unless their TSH is under 1. I had no problems conceiving with my TSH under 1, and had a miscarriage before my underactive thyroid was diagnosed. I hope that helps.
