Hi ladies, so i have changed from SMA 1 to the follow on formula SMA 2 about 3.5weeks ago. DD has been teething for approx that much time. The problem i am having is she will suck for a little bit and then pull off and not want anymore. Each feed she can have anywhere from only 60mls to 160mls. (160mls very rare) She is a very chubby bubba so i wasnt concerned at the start but its getting worse and now she is waking at night hungry. She has been on solids for about 5 weeks. Also just gone off that since Fri. Her behaviour hasnt really changed in any other way. I have changed teats thinking its maybe too slow and she was getting frustrated but that dosnt seem to make a big difference. Do i change formula? she didnt do it on SMA 1, or do you think its all teething related. Oh its so hard, DD1 never did this so i am at a loss??

Thanks for the tip Shelly, i havnt been back since DD1 was 8months old (now 3 next month) so im sure its all going to be a learning curve as to whats available over there. Would you say its cheaper for formula in Oz or here?

I give my bub S26 Gold and the main reason I chose that formula is because thats what they used in the hospital to top her up. It is also widely available in Oz which was an added bonus. ;)

Ok well i will switch back in a hope that this makes the difference, i think i missed the inital cues you know being bub number 2 and cant quite pinpoint if its that or not. I will switch back and it shouldnt be too dramatic as its the same brand yeh? Thanks for your advice. Also Shelly your from Oz, did you choose a formula that you could also get here and in Oz? We are travelling back for 5 weeks shortly and am just thinking about how many tins im going to need to pack. :P

Leshell, my DD also hated the stage 2 formula and flat our refused to drink it. I was told by her doctor here that it is best to stick with stage 1 formula as it is nearer to breast milk than stage 2 formula. I was also given this exact reason by her doctor she sees when we are home in Australia. So I have kept her on stage 1 and she is happy, her docs are happy and this makes me happy!

Apparently some doctors advise against follow on formula and advise mothers to continue with Stage 1 formula until 12 months. If your baby doesn't liked SMA 1 but not SMA 2 I would just continue with SMA 1 a bit longer.... don't think there is any urgent reason to switch to Stage 2. Or try different brands and see what she prefers... my baby was on Aptamil 1 and then NAN 2; we discovered by chance that he loved NAN 2 when we ran out of formula while travelling... once solids have been introduced at 6 months I don't think switching formula brands is such a big deal anymore.... good luck.
