Oh and in answer to your actual question, if your baby's weight gain is high, mixing with water should be fine, in fact, if you and your dr think your baby is over weight and possibly over eating due to thirst, they might suggest slightly diluting your formula or giving a small amount of water between feeds rather than increasing calories even more.
Here us a link to the growth charts http://www.cdc.gov/growthcharts/data/who/grchrt_boys_24lw_9210.pdf
Not sure of his pattern of growth between birth and 3 months but just comparing those two, he had gone up a few centiles already by three months. If he has gone up more in the last month, you might want to discuss with your paediatrician whether he may be over eating, and how to mitigate this. Formula fed babies don't get as much comfort from the bottle, giving a pacifier in conjunction with a feed can help fulfil their need to suck without them over eating.
It's probably a good idea that you talk over with your paediatrician and research yourself the risks of starting solids two months early, before you make a decision about what is best in your case.
The AR milk is great and suits him really well.
Since I started using it he has been a different baby and winds straight away and no spit up after feeding where as before I was going through bibs and baby grows.
I need to get him weighed as its been over a month but not sure where I can go in Dubai just to get him weighed and not see a doctor. He has his next set of jabs at the end of the month so will find out then but would like to do it this week.
He was born at 2.75kg a his last weigh on 3rd march was 6.2 kg
How is his weight gain, reflux babies can often over eat, especially when formula fed as feeding temporarily relieves the pain. If his weight gain curve us showing excessive gain then this may be the case. Did you find the thickened anti reflux formula improved his reflux? Some people find if helps but others see reflux getting worse or switching to silent reflux. Personally I am anti rice as it is pure starch and a four month old formula fed baby has very little ability to break down starch, meaning it can ferment in their gut causing gas and pain, and also lead to constipation issues. I have also found with both my reflux babies that reflux improved immensely between 4 and 6 months, without the need for introducing solids or any meds, it then worsened slightly when solids were introduced.
Is your baby showing signs of readiness such as sitting unaided, loss of tongue thrust and interest in food, waking in the night for milk is quite normal at that age.
I have just been and got a box of the cow and gate baby rice to start giving to my little boy as he is a hungry baby but as he has reflux i can't use hungry baby milk and is on aptamil AR milk so have been advised to try the rice.
He is 4 months old and it does say they can be given rice from 4 months but says to make up with his milk. Is anyone using this and can advise the best way to make it and feed it to a baby, can I use warm water and still give a full bottle of milk after???
He takes 6 bottles a day of 6oz so feel the milk is just not enough to fill him as I am still dream feeding at 11pm and he wakes around 3.30am for a bottle.
Thanks
