DD is turning 3 this week and DH and I are clueless what to get her. We would like it to be something that we would be willing to pack and take with us to Singapore, so DH thought of a balance bike, as it is an outdoor toy we hope we can put to good use in SG. But I'm not too sure as she is such a girly girl into all things pink and princess! I too love the idea as it is the perfect transition to a bike, but I'm concerned that the lack of girliness will be offputting to her... Will she grow into it though?

Balance bike was THE best thing we got our DD in the last 4 years! I can only recommend! If they don't have a pink one anywhere you could paint it....Seriously , get her one. They had some nice ones at Go-Sport and of course at Wolfi's. We know plenty of people whose kids had them and switched directly to a 'big' bike without training wheels after. Unlike with a tricycle or a scooter she will be able to go quite fast, so might want to invest in a helmet, too. The balance bike is a godsend when we want to go for longer walks as she can ride along side us. Back home I see plenty of little kids riding their balance bikes while their parents ride their regular bikes through town.

Just what I was going to suggest :). I am not totally sure what a balance bike it, but for "regular" kids' bikes you can certainly get pink ones, purple ones, Barbie ones...you name it! Or you could have a lot of fun decorating it :). xx
