Hi all!

My 5.5 month old son started off with a dry cough and was given Fenistil and Saline spray 3 weeks ago. This didn't work and his cough became chesty and wheezy.There has been no temperature or fever and it hasn't upset him as he is still a happy boy. Last week he was diagnosed with bronchitis and given ventolin and Flixotide exohaler. He has had this for a week and still no improvement. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Any recommendations on what to do??? Don't want antibiotics!!!!

Also please can you let me know the name of an excellent paediatrician, who genuinely cares and their location.

DD had bronchitis when she was 9 months old and the Dr prescribed a ton of meds including Ventolin to be used with a nebulizer which I found pretty useless to be honest. I did not use some of the things he prescribed as I thought it was overkill and I just made sure I kept her nose clear with saline spray. It took a few weeks to pass but as she didn't have other symptoms and wasn't in discomfort it was ok. Some Drs will scare you by making an offhand link to asthma, that's what the Dr we had seen did. I have not been back to that Dr but I would highly recommend Dr Keith Nicholl who we tend to see these days. I am not familiar with Dr Talal but the profile sounds similar so you'd probably be ok with either. Dr Keith has his clinic on Jumeirah Beach Road near Al Thanya, you can look up their website if you want to go.

Did they test your son for RSV? It has been going around and his symptoms sound all too familiar to me. If it is then this doesn't really change the treatment but will give you a realistic expectations of timeframe for recovery. My DD2 was 2 months when she and her big sister was diagnosed and I was told to expect coughing for at least three months. DD2 was fine reasonably quickly but DD1 (now 24mths) still has a dry cough esp when sleeping and we have just ticked over three months since they first got sick. Can highly recommend Dr Talal at http://www.uaechildren.com/ He takes his time, is very experienced (he headed the paediatric dept at City before setting up his own clinic and has a speciality in cardio as well), and will not prescribe drugs unless he really thinks it is necessary. Most of all - he listens to parents and he genuinely likes kids.
