Hi Ladies,

I wondered if you would be so kind as to share your c-section experiences with me ie, which hospital and Dr and your recovery time etc.

This will be my 3rd baby and it is not budging from its breech position. The Dr told me we still have a bit of time but I would like to prepare myself just incase.

my ELCS was amazing! i needed it for medical reasons - IUGR, mybaby had stopped growing, but i would choose one any day! lovely calm experience, i walked into theatre....baby was with me for half an hour or so then went to NICU. the pain the first few days was horrible but i prefer that than a vaginal delivery. if you reaecrh then after the age of 35, your chances of a 'natural' birth ie with no forceps, episitomy or ventuse are only 1 in 3. i didn't liek those odds. i saw dr aziz at city hospital and she was amazing.

Hi Jussie, I had an emergency C section but I was already on epidural so they just increased they dosage and I was ready to go within minutes. The op itself went very fast but where I gave birth (not Dubai) they would not let the baby stay with me. I started feeling awkward once I was in my room since I could not feel my legs for several hours but by the morning (I had the op around 1am) I could get up and walk slowly so it wasn't bad. I don't know if they do it in other places, but where I had the op, they impose anti-thrombosis socks for one week and believe it or not that for me was the worst part about having a C section:-) I was on panadol for 2 weeks, as I still had significant pain but it was manageable. The scar healed very well, although at first I thought it looked scary and could not imagine how it could ever improve, 5 months later it was already much fainter and by now, 17 months later you can barely see it. But I believe a lot of this depends not only on the skill of the doctor but also your skin's ability to heal which can vary greately from one person to the next. Good luck with everything!

I had a scheduled c section in Doha (no labour) with my first baby due to position, I had a spinal epidural for the surgery, IV pain relief for 24 hours afterwards and then panadol for a week (which was more than enough to manage the pain). After 3 days I was able to cook, unload the dishwasher, climb stairs, do laundry, groceries etc but I didn't lift anything heavier than my baby for around a month. It hurt to cough or laugh for around 2 weeks and it was hard getting in and out of bed for a couple of weeks I think but otherwise I would compare the pain to a badly sprained ankle both in intensity and recovery time. My surgeon used glue and my scar after 3 years is barely visible. My second baby was born by VBAC as although my recovery was very good, I felt it would be a pain not being able to lift for that length of time as I had a two year old to look after. You are also not supposed to drive for 6 weeks post surgery which could be a real pain if you have kids to take to school etc. Overall though, the pain from my natural birth, though shorter lived was far, far more intense and I had a fairly easy birth (only 3 hours at the hospital before she was born). If a c section looks likely, then I would check with your surgeon and hospital regarding their policies regarding husbands in the theatre and baby with the mother during surgery and recovery. It takes literally 5 minutes from when they start to when the baby is out, and then around 30 minutes to stitch you back up, I had my baby on my chest during that whole time and in recovery, but not all hospitals are on board with that which is a real shame as it is much better for mother and baby. <em>edited by kiwispiers on 19/02/2014</em>

I had an emergency C-section since my baby was too small and she was breech. it was too dangerous to try and turn her.. recovery time.. well after 17 months i am still recovering.. but it really depends on the dr and your body.. just 1 tip i can give you.. make sure your doctor really cleans you.. i got an infection and kept bleeding for 10 months.. and just now my period has stabilised.. my stitches are completely healed just for a small part where it keeps buldging but i think its because of a hair ingrown.. (sorry for being graphic hehe)... i had it in city hospital it was fine just make sure you have someone to help you breast feed since c-section does delay the time for milk to show up.. but with support you will be fine.. i didn't have that so i kept exclusively pumping for 6 months.. sorry mine is not a pleasant one.. but i am recovering and feeling more confident each day and hopefully my next one will be a VBAC..
