We are in Australia but about to return to Dubai. DS received a nasty 2nd degree burn and we have been getting it dressed here but will need to continue it for a couple of weeks in Dubai - can anyone make a recommendation?

To my knowledge, there is no-one who really specialises in burns here. Dressings are usually done by nurses and most clinics and hospitals would have an outpatient facility where you can go for daily dressings. The hospital that I worked at would usually refer burns to a plastic surgeon who would oversee things but the pediatric ward nurses would do the dressing on the child. There is a certain plastic surgeon that I would not recommend tho who was always very impatient and unkind to the kids. You could always go to Al Wasl Hospital and see if they offer that service. I don't know if you have insurance that would cover the dressings here, but if you don't, I think it would get really expensive going to a dr for daily dressings. I also found that my DD was less traumatised doing it at home. Maybe you could see Dr Nichol and see what he recommends. If you need any help, let me know. I am a peds nurse & have done loads of burns dressings even on my own child. Thank you Ladies. We have returned now and PMH Hospital were fabulous! They gave us plenty of stocks and carefully instructed my DH how to dress the wounds. I have an apt with Dr Nicol but I think we will manage it fine from home. I am glad that we opted to do it ourselves because the supplies are different and it would be very costly here.

My DD dint have a burn but an open wound on her entire neck due to a condition she has. We had her treated in the UK for it as they had no idea what to do in Dubai hospital, city hospital or american hospital. Anyways, long short, DH and I were taught to clean and do the dressing ourselves, especially since we had to come back to dxb eventually. We have becomes pros at it now. And this was hen DD was 2months old. So maybe you can ask the doctor to show you how to do it?

Dr. Gupta is a pediatrician, I don't think he specializes in burns, just know that he treated my friend's daughter for her 3rd degree burns and that he seemed good.

Sorry to hear about your DS Tru Blu. You could go to the government Umm Suqium clinic on Jumeirah.My daughter had a severe infection when her umbilical cord fell off too early and I went there everyday for 2 weeks to get it dressed by the nurses and there was a baby there having burns on his arm dressed.You will have to see the Pediatric Dr first and they will organise,best to go in person then try to arrange over phone as I found communication can be a bit of a problem with the reception staff but the nurses and Drs are great.HTH.

Oh no :( Poor LO - what area are you in? We live JBR. We fly tonight so really want to be sorted and know what my options are. DH has just taken DS now for his final dressing at Princess Margaret Hospital here in Perth. After reading this thread I quickly called him and asked him to try and get some supplies if possible. Not sure if the hospital will comply though. kittycat71, the burns are on his chest and left arm.:( My regular Paed in Dubai is Dr Nicol, who I really like, but I don't think he would be doing the dressings himself. I was wondering if there was somewhere around that may specialize in burns. LJB2010 - do you know if that Dr at Cooper Clinic specializes in burns or is he a regular GP?

My DD had a 2nd degree burn and after the initial treatment at the ER, I continued with daily dressings myself at home after bathtime. Its really quite easy and everything can be bought at the big LIFE Pharmacy on Al Wasl Rd. How about asking the clinic where u are going to show you how to do it? We used Flamazine cream, Jelonet (vaseline gauze) gauze and soft bandage. Her burn has healed with virtually no scar. Where is the burn?

i highyl recommend getting the getting the burn medication and dressing from wherever you are. MY DD had a skin condition that needed daily dressing, and the items I needed are unavailable in UAE. I had to get them shipped in from the UK.

Oh dear! A friend's daughter was treated for burns by Dr. Gupta at Cooper Clinic, she thought he was quite gentle and good. Cooper Clinic is near Al Manara rd on Al Wasl.

sorry to read this, hope your baby is ok. If the hospital there have used specialist dressing for the burn try and bring some back with you just in case they don't have it here (slim chance but you don't want anything to delay healing) I would make an appointment with your regular paed in Dubai and go from there.
