Morning! My DD is 21months old and I have managed to get her into a good routine for nursery ie waking up at 7am, napping at approx 1.45pm for 1.5 hours, sleeping at 9pm. Now I did realise that 9pm was too late and she would become over tired and throw tantrums at bed time so I shifted her bedtime to 8pm. She went to bed happily! No tantrum or anything! But then she woke up at 6am....how do I get her to sleep a little longer? Thats a total of about 12hrs sleep during the 24hrs. Is that enough?

Thanks so much for the feedback and advice. Will take it on and try to get her into bed earlier if not then longer nap I think might work better than shorter :)

Most children are naturally early risers. 6am is the norm in our house, too. If you're thinking she needs more sleep, best to move her bedtime even earlier since she' proven that 6am is her natural wake up time. edited by Meagle on 19/09/2013

i think every baby is different. my son loves his sleep and needs a lot of sleep (13 hours at night and 2 in the day) but quite a few of my friends children only need 10 hours a night. if you really want her to sleep until 7 you could cut her nap down in the day to just 1 hour and see if that works? OR you could do the opposite- give her a longer nap earlier in the day say 12.30-2.30 then put her down at 7 and see if that makes her sleep a little longer? they do say the more sleep they have the longer they sleep. OR she could just be a baby that doesnt need that much sleep...
